Soviet Marshal Rokossowski inspecting troops as he assumes control of Poland ending all Polish independence in November 1949. In Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary, the pattern of Soviet domination and occupation continues as Communism forces out all other forms of Government. Stalin ignores the protest of Britain and the United States as he knows the West had demobilized and would not take military action. The Soviets efforts to create internal strife in Turkey was not of sufficient strength so the take-over of Turkey failed. In Greece the effort to spread Communism brought death and despair. To aid Greece and Turkey and stop the spread of Communism, U.S. President Truman appears before Congress in March 1947 asking for immediate aid be sent to Greece and Turkey.
