1st Cavalry Division In South Korea:

Shows troops of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division landing at Pohang-dong South Korea July 9, 1950. The balance of the 1st Cavalry Division landed a few days later. Shows 1st Cavalry Division troops fighting in Korea and linking up with the Army 7th Infantry Division.

December 1951 the 1st Cavalry Division is shipped back to Japan for garrison duty until 1957.

On February 11, 1963 a new experimental Army unit, combining light infantry with integral helicopter transport and air support was formed and trained at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Shows training of soldiers and helicopter pilots. Pilots were trained in helicopter formation flying and gunnery practice. Shows the different aircraft assigned to the 11th Air Assault Division, the H-13 (OH-13) Sioux light observation helicopter, the UH-1 “Huey” helicopter, the Ch-47 Chinook helicopter, CH-54 Skycrane helicopter, The OV-1 Mohawk light attack and observation aircraft, and the DHC-4 Caribou (CV-2 Caribou) transport aircraft.

00:16:50:16. July 3, 1965, Fort Benning, Georgia The 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) Formed:

In a matter of days the 1st Cavalry Airmobile Division (New First Team) was ordered to Vietnam. By bus, by train, and by military vehicle convoys the 1st Cavalry Division headed to seaports to become the first full division of U.S. troops sent to Vietnam.

In Vietnam a detachment of 1st Cav soldiers were preparing a base of operations at An Khe, in the central highlands of Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.
