New High-Speed Emergency Chute For Buildings
A California hospital tests new method or equipment for emergency evacuation of patients from as high as the fourth floor. A fireproof canvas chute slide is dropped from 4th floor window and patients slide down chute to safety. New safety rescue invention.
Training Put To Practice In Combat
Combat training under live fire for US Army recruits that will man mobile tank destroyers. Recruits crawl under barbwire as live machine gun fire and explosions simulate combat or battlefield conditions. Army recruits soldiers train under live machine gun fire. Army recruits soldiers are trained in street fighting moving from building to building, house to house. Self-propelled tank destroyer; 75 mm gun mounted on M3 half-track vehicle. Aircraft Carrier USS Lexington CV-16 Is Launched
Launching of the new USS Lexington CV-16 aircraft carrier on September 23, 1942. The ship was christened by Mrs. Theodore Douglas Robinson. Nicknames for the new USS Lexington was The Grey Ghost and Lady Lex. The new USS Lexington CV-16 replaces the old USS Lexington CV-2 lost in the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942.
War In The South Pacific
New Guinea natives deliver military supplies. A midget Japanese submarine is inspected in Sydney Harbor. Australia. A naval task force bombards a Japanese-held island. Damage is surveyed by marines who also capture Japanese prisoners.
