Gateway To Victory, Normandy Invasion. The amphibious assault on the beaches of Normandy by American, British, and Canadian troops. U.S. soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division and 29th Infantry Division landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. A soldier is shot and falls within yards of the edge of the water. Heavy seas and U.S. troops pinned down behind cliffs on Omaha Beach.
B-26 Marauder bombers in flight and dropping bombs on German positions inland to prevent movement of German reinforcements. Massive ground explosion of bombs.
Destroyed German defense positions and dead German troops. Various scenes of captured German prisoners. Street fighting in small French town. German prisoners (POW'S) are loaded onto landing crafts on the Normandy beachheads for shipment back to England.
Scenes from the Italian Front; low aerial view of Rome. General Mark Clark watch as the 5th Army troops enter Rome. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsey and General Bernard Montgomery hold a meeting aboard a ship. General Montgomery, Commander of land forces for the Normandy invasion, returns to the Normandy beachhead aboard a DUKW Amphibious vehicle after a shipboard meeting with "Ike" the nickname for General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
