Allied Forces Invade Balikpapan
Battle of Balikpapan July 1, 1945 was the concluding stage Oboe 2 of the Operation Oboe. Oboe 2 was the last major amphibious assault of WWII. Allies land at Balikpapan, a seaside city on the east coast of the island of Borneo, during the Borneo Campaign of 1945. General Douglas MacArthur supervises a naval bombardment and the amphibious assault upon Borneo. Landing crafts take the Australian 7th Division, nicknamed The Silent Seventh, to the beach and they push inland. Troops of the Australian 7th Division fighting on Borneo.
