Men using oxen to plow field, seed field by hand. Ancient devises to move or lift irrigation water. Shows how fields were irrigated by manpower with use of a shadoof (shaduf). Shows the use of the Archimedean screw to raise water to level of irrigation ditch. Shows man making bricks using mud and straw for brick material. Camel train or caravan crossing desert, desert scene showing one lone tree. Shows dust devil (dustdevil) whipped up by the wind moving across desert. CU view of camel's feet, shows camels kneeling. Bedouins make camp, women hammer tent pegs into ground and raise tents. Men and children in tent eating with fingers from communal bowl.

Next day, the women "break camp" and load tents onto the camels, one camel struggling to get to feet. Children strapped into litters on camels back. Animated Map shows the travel route taken by the Israelites from Kadesh to the Promised Land. Aerial view of Akabah, a village of mud huts on the Red Sea. Shows railway track through desert (commentary says it is the bridges of this railway that was blown up by Lawrence of Arabia in WWI or the Great War). The Israelites traveled to Petra. Brief images of the Temples craved into the red sandstone cliffs at Petra (Petra now located in modern day Jordan) Hazy Shot of the hills of Judea and the Promised Land across the Dead Sea. Aerial view of Valley of Shittim, a volcanic plain. Bedouins or Nomads on horseback "collect" beside the River Jordan with their families and flocks for a few days before crossing the Jordan River into Palestine.

Bedouin horsemen cross the river first with the horses and camels. Sheep are taken across the river by holding each sheep by the ear and swimming with them. Women and children cross the river on rafts made of goat skins blown up with air.

The history of Israel. The threat of the Philistines, a warrior race from the plains, made Israel demand a King. About 1017 B.C. Saul was anointed. Map shows kingdom of Saul. Pan of area showing Mount Gilboa where King Saul fell on his sword to avoid capture in the battle against the Philistines. Arab nomad playing musical instrument while tending herd of goats. Arab uses sling to throw rock projectile to guide their flocks. Animated map shows the Kingdom of David. Panning view of the Lebanon Mountains. Shows cluster of trees known as Cedars of Lebanon in the Kadisha Gourge (now called Forest of the Cedars of God). Cedars of Lebanon trees are looked after by a Maronite Priest. Shows the Maronite Chapel. Many of the trees are inscribed with the names of famous men who had visited the "trees of Lebanon".

When the Jews under Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem they found the walls of the city torn down. Under the leadership of Nehemiah they set about the task of rebuilding. Shows stone mason at work with hammer and chisel.

History of the Samaritan Israelites. The Samaritans from Shechem (Sichem) asked to help and the Jews refused. The Samaritans went back to Shechem and carried on the religion of Moses in their own way. Shows ancient city of Shechem (Sichem).

Shows Samaritan camp on top of mount Gerizim the week before Passover. Shows Samaritans preparing scaffolding for sacrifice. Shows pits to burn the parts of the sheep not permitted to eat and pit to cook the sacrificed sheep parts. Shows Passover preparations under British Police protection.
