The Sonic Boom And You
With the advent of the development of SST passenger and cargo aircraft the U.S. Department of Transportation undertook the study of sonic booms over a populated area and if such supersonic flights would be acceptable to flights over inhabited areas. Pan view of the Oscura Range, White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico where different types of structures were build for a sonic boom test program. Shows the Concorde SST aircraft being assembled.
In 1961 the United States set as a national goal the development of a supersonic transport. The project was called the SST Program and the FAA was given the responsibility to see it was developed. Shows Engineers at work, aircraft mock-ups, and testing of different aircraft configurations. Animation is used to illustrate the cause and effects of a sonic boom.
