Henry A. Wallace - Progressive Party Candidate
Campaign footage of United States Progressive Party presidential candidate Henry A. Wallace in 1948. The Wallace-Taylor platform advocated friendly relations with the Soviet Union, an end to the Cold War, an end to segregation, full voting rights for blacks, and universal government health insurance. The Wallace political campaign was unusual for the times in that it included African American candidates campaigning alongside white political candidates in the South and that during the campaign Wallace refused to appear before segregated audiences or to eat or stay in segregated establishments.
