Lawn Lake Dam Failure
Aftermath of the “flood of 1982” when the earthen Lawn Lake Dam in the Rocky Mountain National Park failed about 6:00 AM on the morning of July 15. The sudden release of 30 million cubic feet of water resulted in a flash flood that killed three people and caused $31 million in damages to the town of Estes Park, Colorado and other downstream areas.
