Rainmaker Mountain also known as North Ploa Mountain or Mt Ploa that traps rain clouds and gives Pago Pago the highest annual rainfall of any harbor in the world. Shows the historic Sadie Thompson building.
Historic Note:
On December 15, 1916, English writer William Somerset Maugham arrived in Pago Pago, allegedly accompanied by a missionary and Miss Sadie Thompson. His visit inspired his short story Rain, which later became plays and three major Motion Pictures. The building Maugham stayed during his visit still stands and has been for decades renamed the Sadie Thompson Building.
