Israel Attacks Egypt, France And Britain Enter Conflict
Major crisis confronts the world as Israel attacks Egypt, and France and Britain prepare to move troops into the Suez Canal. Egypt is bombed by British jets, even as the U.N. General Assembly meets in emergency session to consider the threat to peace. President Eisenhower declares position after the world has seen Britain and France veto peace proposals in the United Nations as put forth by the U.S. and Russia.
Hungary Free Now But Faces New Red Threat
Fraternization along Hungary's borders symbolize the nation's independence of Russian domination. But as medical supplies are shipped in, the debris of battle is cleared from Budapest streets as the revolution's dead are buried, Soviet troops move into Hungary again, a new threat that follows Premier Nagy's declaration of neutrality and appeal to the U.N. for a guarantee of Hungary's hard-won sovereignty.
