President Dwight D. Eisenhower East Coast Events
Highlights of President Eisenhower’s tour of the East. The Chief Executive receives an honorary degree from Hartford’s Trinity College, and cuts the cake at Connecticut Governor John Lodge’s birthday party. In New York, the President addresses a banquet marking the 300th anniversary of Jewish settlement in America, and pledges that American arms will be used only in defense of freedom. Later he meets with Senator Irving Ives, GOP candidate for Governor of New York, and makes a motor tour of the city.
