East Berliners Make Dramatic Escapes To Freedom

East Berliners jump to freedom. As the Berlin wall grows higher and stronger East Berliners along the border are forced to evacuate their homes as the East Police move to prevent their escape to West Berlin. Scenes of East Berlin Police using reflective mirrors, water hoses, and smoke bombs to keep news reporters in West Berlin from taking pictures. Universal-International cameramen records a remarkable document of the escape of East Berliners despite attempts of East German troops to stop them. Scenes of drop from fifth floor windows into fire nets. While attention is diverted, people cut holes in the barbed wire and escape to freedom in West Berlin

Twenty-Five Years Ago - 1936

25 years ago this was not an unusual baseball picture; the New York Yankees playing in the World Series against the New York Giants. Images of Yankee Manager, Joe McCarthy and Giants Manager, Bill Terry. Carl Hubbell and Red Ruffing (opposing pitchers – not shown). Scenes of Babe Ruth, guest of honor, in the stands.

New York was also in the midst of hectic preparations for its World's Fair and Grover Whalen points out highlights of the great exposition to visiting dignitaries.

Highways were crowded even in 1936. Scenes of a helicopter with folding blades shown in flight. After landing the blades were folded and the helicopter automobile then complete its journey through the city streets.

The Germans came up with a switch with a tandem bike. Scenes of a tandem bicycle with a boy and girl riding side by side on one set of wheels.
