Royal British Marine Commandos and the Canadian 1st Army launch an all-out amphibious attack on Nazi positions in the approaches to Antwerp’s gigantic harbor. They capture Walcheren Island, Flushing and Westkapelle. Losses in some attacking waves run as high as 80%. To complete the victory, the British 2nd Army fords treacherous canals to capture Tilberg.
