Throngs fill Saint Peter's Square awaiting the puff of smoke from within the Sistine Chapel signaling the selection of the new Pope. Rare scenes from within the Sistine Chapel show the College of Cardinals as they begin their deliberations, sealed off from the outside world. The traditional signal results in confusion as an intended black "fumetti" on the first ballot emerges white causing premature rejoicing.
