Scenes of the historic 7-nation summit conference on Vietnam in Manila, Philippines produces a pledge on mutual troop withdrawal from South Vietnam which is later rejected by the VietCong.The participants were Prime Minister Harold Holt of Australia, President Park Chung-Hee of the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister Keith Holyoake of New Zealand, President Ferdinand E. Marcos of the Philippines, Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn of Thailand, President Lyndon B. Johnson of the United States of America, and Chairman Nguyen Van Thieu and Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky of the Republic of Vietnam. President Johnson makes a surprise visit to the troops in South Vietnam where he makes battle decorations.
U.S. Domestic Politics
The 1966 election serves as a significant preview of the 1968 presidential election. Governors, Senators, and Congressmen are chosen. Among the big winners: Romney in Michigan, Percy in Illinois, Edward Brooke in Massachusetts elected first Black Senator in U.S. History chosen by the voters, Governor Rockefeller wins third term in New York, Actor Ronald Reagan elected as Governor of California, and Mrs. Lurleen Wallace succeeds her husband as Governor of Alabama and becomes only the third lady Governor in American History.

Robert Weaver appointed first Black Cabinet Member. At The UN (United Nations) U Thant unanimously reappointed as Secretary-General. French President DeGaulle makes State Visit to Moscow. In the same year, French President DeGaulle evicts NATO from France resulting in huge political, social, and economic significants.
Scenes of Tragedies In 1966
Florence, Italy, suffers the worst art catastrophe of all time in huge flood. A sniper, Charles Whitman, kills 16, and wounds 33, at the University of Texas. Some two hundred killed, including 81 children in slag slide in Wales.
Historic Meeting
Pope and Canterbury seek Christian Unity. Pope Paul VI meets with Arthur Michael Ramsey, the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Vatican in 1966 in a display of ecumenical cooperation between the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.

Luci Baines Johnson weds Patrick Nugent in the "Wedding of the year."
In Space
Shows launch of Lunar Orbiter 2 Spacecraft headed for the moon to take photographs of future moon landing sites. The Gemini Program is concluded triumphantly with the U.S. holding almost every record in manned space flight.
