1964 Presidential Race Launches
The 1964 Presidential Campaign is officially launched as 100,000 people assemble in Detroit to hear President Johnson’s first bid for re-election. He attacks Barry Goldwater’s stand on looking at any nuclear weapon as conventional. Meanwhile, Republican candidate Barry Goldwater begins his first swing with a rally in Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California. Hurricane Dora Slams Into Jacksonville Florida
The fourth major hurricane of the season slams into Florida at Jacksonville Beach and points north and south with winds exceeding 100 mph. Damage is heavy, especially to the Florida citrus crop. Scenes of wicked winds, rain, and ocean waves of hurricane Dora.
