President Lyndon B. Johnson Inspects Damage From Hurricane Dora
As hurricane Dora blows herself out with a last flounce, the people of Florida and Georgia were tallying more than $200,000,000 in damages. President Lyndon B. Johnson flies down from Washington to make a personal inspection of the damage from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, to San Simon Island, Georgia. He has promised government aid as he declares the devastated sections disaster areas.

In Atlantic City Hall there’s another hot contest waged; the Miss America Pageant of 1964. Miss Arizona, Vonda Kay Van Dyke, rounds the last few curves to take the title. There are floods of tears of joy as usual. You know how it is; a beauty queen never reigns, but it pours.
First Legalized Sweepstakes In US Is Held
The New Hampshire town of Salem goes down in history as the scene of the first legalized horse race sweepstakes in the U.S. Six winners hold tickets on the horse Roman Brother and they collect $100,000 each, with Uncle Sam hovering in the background for his cut. Track Stars Vie For Spot On US Olympic Team
The finals trials in Los Angeles, California to pick the United States Olympic Team projects a bright future for the team in Tokyo. Bob Hayes of Florida A&M ties the American record in the 100-meter dash. Ralph Boston sets a new mark in the broad jump, a world record 27 feet, 4-1/4 inches. Another record is set as Rex Cawley clips a tenth of a second from the world figure in the 400 meter hurdles. Henry Carr is upset in the 200 meter dash as Paul Drayton wins by five feet in twenty and time of 0:20.4 seconds.
