Show Of Red Contempt Soviet Union Explodes Atomic Super Bomb
The United Nations meets in anger and shock after the Russians detonated their Atomic super-bomb or Tzar bomb on October 30,1961. Shows Ambassador Adlai Stevenson speaking to the nations of the world at the UN (United Nations). Ambassador Adlai Stevenson sums up the feelings of the majority of nations when he calls the 50-Megaton or better blast "a great leap backward toward anarchy and disaster".
125,000 Pray For World Peace
The Washington Monument serves as a backdrop as 125,000 people of all faiths take part in a massive display of faith and prayer for peace after "terror bomb test by Russians" (Soviet Union explodes super atomic bomb). They are addressed by Francis Cardinal Spellman who terms the Russians the Free World's worst enemy and says that never has the world had a greater need for men of deep faith than in these troubled days. Aircraft Carrier Constellation Is Commissioned
Rising Phoenix-like from the ashes of last year's disastrous fire in a dry dock at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard, the Aircraft Carrier "Constellation" joins the Navy, the mightiest fighting ship in the world. The fire last December took 50 lives and caused $75,000,000 damage but today the proud ship shows none of those scars.
