Americans Released From Red Prisons
German Reds in East Berlin & Czechs release American citizens held as prisoners. In West Berlin four Americans, including a woman, are released from Communist East German prison after serving one year on charges of helping East Germans escape to the West. Shown at news conference is Fredrick Matthews of Elmwood, Pennsylvania, Moses Reese Herron of Akron, Ohio, Mary Helen Battle of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and William Wyatt Lovett of San Francisco, California.

Vietnam War Mekong Delta
Shows South Vietnam and American troops in the rice fields and jungles of the Vietnam Mekong Delta. South Vietnamese troops kill 54 Vietcong guerillas in brief but bloody fighting in the Mekong Delta. Thick, heavy jungle makes tough going for the troops and provides perfect cover for Vietcong snipers and mines. Meanwhile, the Pentagon announces total American casualties as over 50 thousand with the loss of 1,750 aircraft.
Major Winter Storm Lashes Chicago And Midwest
Wicked weather. Midwesterners are belted with the second major snowstorm within a week, bringing the total snowfall close to three feet. In Chicago, warned hours in advance, motorists and pedestrians accept the snow storm with good humor. Indiana, meanwhile, reports six deaths due to the snow storm.
Leg Re-Attached At Boston Hospital
In Boston, an 18-year-old boy recovers the use of his left leg, almost severed last year in an auto accident. Six doctors rejoined the leg in a five-hour operation. They said Jan Dangora's youth, strength, and basic health gave him a big edge toward recovering use of the limb.
Nazi Crimes Against Humanity Trial In Munich Germany
Three former Nazis stand trial in Munich for the mass murder of Dutch Jews, including Anne Frank. Former S.S. officers Wilhelm Harster and Wilheim Zoepf, along with Secretary Gertrude Slottke, are accused of the mass deportation to death camps of thousands of Dutch Jews.
New York City Hosts Start A Small Business Expo
A "Start Your Own Business" show in New York City attracts the would-be self-employed to an exposition of over 100 exhibits. They include franchises for car-wash, spray-on shoe dyes, orange juice stands, pizza parlors and drive-in donut shops. All urge, "Be Your Own Boss!"
Quebec Winter Carnival Thrills Thousands
The Quebec Winter Carnival, complete with an elaborate night parade, thrills thousands of visitors to the old French-Canadian walled city. It's the 13th annual pre-Lenten carnival, originally a 19th Century celebration. It's a time of beauty, thrills and excitement.
