Rome Italy Hosts Confab Of Trans-Atlantic Pilots
Rome Italy. A confetti and flower blizzard covers the bared heads of more than 50 pilots that have made non-stop transatlantic flights; the world’s first confab (gathering) of international airmen. Guests of Mussolini, the array of pioneer airmen is led by Sir Arthur Whitten Brown, partner of the pioneer flight from Newfoundland to Ireland. With characteristic enthusiasm, the great gathering is welcomed by throngs of excited citizens as they jam the public squares and streets. Among the aviators receiving the tumultuous greeting are Harold Gatty, George Haldeman, Albert Hegenberger, Dieudonne Coste, Maurice Bellonte, Hermann Kohl, and Wolfgang von Gronau.
