11 dead, 54 injured in fatal blaze 35 feet underground in the Drainage Canal Tunnel in Chicago ILL. Firemen and workers, trapped by flame, gases and smoke after blast in Drainage Canal Tunnel, perish even as rescue workers risk own lives to try and bring them out. Victims are hauled to surface and fresh air by means of bucket similar to that used in mine shafts. Vast crowds hamper relief efforts.
