Pirates Take Tampa Again In Annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival
Scenes of the The Gasparilla Pirate Festival and parade; an annual celebration held in Tampa Florida in late January or early February and hosted by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla (YMKG) and the City of Tampa. Inspired by the Legend of Pirate Jose Gaspar, YMKG was founded in 1904 as an organization dedicated to enriching the vitality and imagination of Tampa and the surrounding community.

Honeymoon Island Florida Being Built For Romance
Nearing completion on a small island in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa, Florida is the ideal spot for honeymooners. Thatched “love nest” cottages are being built, and soon the spot will be a mecca of romance under tropical skies. The pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when New York developer, Clinton Washburn, purchased the island with plans to build 50-palm thatched bungalows for Honeymooners.
Keel-Laying Ceremony For Battleship USS Alabama
High Government and Navy officials take part in the keel-laying ceremonies, at the Norfolk Navy Yard, of the new 35,000 ton battle wagon. The battleship U.S.S. Alabama to be completed in 1944 at a cost of $70,000,000.

The Coast Guard cutter “Duane,” (earlier known as the USCGC William J. Duane), under Capt. Cornell, sails from Staten Island, New York to report on weather conditions in mid-Atlantic. Intricate equipment for meteorological studies is tested before leaving.
