Vietnam War - Vietcong Ambush U.S. Marine Convoy
An ambush by the Vietcong damages vehicles in a U.S. Marine truck convoy, killing one Marine and wounding four more. Elsewhere in Vietnam an allied sweep clobbers an enemy shore base, killing eighteen Vietcong and taking many prisoners, some of them women. Shows U.S. Marines wading across a stream. U.S Marine guards captured Vietcong prisoners, some wounded. Among the captured Vietcong was a group of women. Shows more captured Vietcong. Shows a U.S. officer talking on a field radio. Shows a UH-1 Huey helicopter landing to pick-up the captured Vietcong.
NATO Opens Its New SHAPE Headquarters In Belgium
NATO officially opens its new home in Belgium with full military honors. The new "SHAPE" headquarters includes military units representing fourteen nations. No reference is made to President DeGaulle's eviction of NATO from its former home in France.

Vice-President Humphrey meets with Pope Paul VI at the Vatican to explore peace possibilities in the Vietnam war. The Pope urges more intense efforts toward settlement; Mr. Humphrey said the visit was a friendly, deeply moving talk.
Cornwall England Oil Spill Threatens Sea Birds
A fight for life, the lives of thousands of birds, continues at Cornwall, England. The birds were contaminated by floating crude oil from a grounded tanker. A Holland bird authority uses a chemical detergent to clean them, saving them from death. Meanwhile, the Cornwall beaches remain black with tar-thick oil.
France Launches Its First Nuclear Submarine Redoutable
France's first nuclear-powered submarine, the "Redoutable," is launched by President DeGaulle at Charbourg, France. The ship cost a quarter-billion dollars, will be armed with 16 missiles, and is the first of three nuclear subs planned by the French.
President Lyndon B. Johnson Hosts Barbecue For Latin Diplomats
A barbecue for Latin-American diplomats at President Johnson's Texas ranch. The guests are some 30 foreign envoys and their wives. The menu: beef, chicken, pork ribs, and sourdough biscuits! Greeting the guests, is President Johnson, Ladybird, and LBJ's daughter and expectant-mother Luci Johnson Nugent.
