Vietnam Crisis Mounts
The war in Vietnam has literally become a fight on two fronts. On one hand the government faces the Vietcong Communists - on the other hand it faces a revolt of the Buddhist majority - a fight that has been joined by thousands of students. The capital, Saigon, is an armed camp as the regime of President Diem which includes Madame Nhu and her husband who is head of the Secret police seeks to maintain order while her troops fight Red guerillas. Government forces and United States 'observers' carry out an attack on a Red band on Mekong Delta. Eighty Vietcong are wiped out with the government loses 26 men.
United States Honors Bob Hope For Service Tours
The Nation honors a man who has brought laughter to service men in the remotest corners of the globe. The great Bob Hope receives a special gold medal authorized by Congress. A singular honor for the GIs perennial favorite who always leaves them laughing.
House Of Heroes For Pro Football Greats
A shrine to the memory of the GREATS of Professional Football is dedicated in Canton, Ohio, where the National Football League was founded in 1920 to start the pro game on its road to glory. Present are George Halas, 'Red' Grange and the famed Notre Dame 'Four Horsemen'. The new Hall Of Fame is a touchdown for sports posterity.
