EGYPTIAN EXPOSITION
CAIRO – King Farouk inspects the first exposition since the war, and views the streamlined progress along the banks of the Nile.

AERIAL HOT RODS
NEWHALL, CAL. – Pilots go in for a new hobby – the aerial hot-rod. The tiny planes, built by their owners, can do 200 miles an hour and some of their feats, a few feet off the ground are hair-raising.

PRESIDENT SPURS U.S. BOND DRIVE
WASHINGTON – The President appeals to all Americans to support the Savings Bond Drive as an investment in their country.

ROLLER DERBY
NEW YORK – Mayhem on skates has its dizzy whirl with boys and girls in their fighting it out with almost no holds barred.

SHANGHAI – Wounded survivors of the Yangtse river battle are returned after a grim battle between four English men of war and shore batteries. Forty four were killed.

NEW JERSEY – A lightweight streamline train, built in America and destined for Spain goes through its paces. Seventy five per cent lighter than the conventional train it can attain a hundred mile speed.

CHICAGO – Betty and Benny have an eighteen inch platform 13 floors up over the street to put on an adagio act. They’re definitely out on a limb.

NEW YORK – Art students take the wraps off their costumes and emotions in an annual revel that produces some striking spectacles.

LOS ANGELES – Dare devil drivers demonstrate sure methods of getting used jalopies off the road. They’re good at it as long as they live.

NEW YORK – Olympia has the narrowest squeak of a sensational year as he noses out Palestinian in a photo finish.

HERO’S REWARD
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Ninety-six painters tackle the new gift home of marine veteran Bob Hoelzle, who lost the use of his legs on Okinawa. They finish the job in two and one half minutes.

THE COLD WAR THAWS OUT?
Russia appears to have made overtures for the abatement of the interminable “Cold War” which has existed between the East and the West. In N.Y.C., U.S. Ambassador-at-Large, Dr. Philip C. Jessup confers with Soviet diplomats Jacob Malik and Andrei Gromyko. In Washington, D.C., the Wenate foreign Relations Committee. In Washington, D.C., the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hears. Sec. of State Dean Acheson and UN Delegate Warren Austin give their views. The latter attributes the development, to the success of the Berlin Airlift, and to the emergence of the Atlantic Pact.

EGYPT – With excavating resumed in Egypt, fantastic treasures are taken from the tombs of the ancient Kings of Egypt. And equally startling is the massive gold coffin of the historically famous King Tutankhamon.

SHANGHAI – Americans by the hundreds evacuate the city as Red armies virtually hammer at the gates. Tragic partings are the order of the day.

MAY DAY IS LOYALTY DAY
NEW YORK – One hundred thousand parade down Fifth Avenue and join in religious services at the Polo Grounds to protest Communist influence, throughout the world.

AQUA-MANIACS
CYPRESS GARDENS, FLA. – They are well named. Well anyway, they do things on water skis that are not in the book. One pessimist even carries an umbrella.

TWISTS AND TURNS
CHICAGO – The top gymnasts of the country’s colleges demonstrate what co-ordination and muscular control can do when it starts somersaulting.

SOCCER FINALS
LONDON – A wildly cheering crowd of British see Wolverhampton and Leicester square off for the cup finals. With Princess Elizabeth cheering, the Wolverhampton team wins 3 to 1.

In a four-power conference held at New York, the Soviet agrees to lift the blockade, with a conference of foreign ministers to follow in which all German questions will be discussed.

ISRAEL ANNIVERSARY
NEW YORK – One hundred and twenty five thousand gather to cheer the state’s first birthday and seek aid for the infant state.

QUEEN JULIANA IS 40
THE HAGUE – Thousands of cheering subjects throng the palace grounds and bring flowers to their queen who is celebrating her first birthday since ascending the throne.

TOKYO FIRE
TOKYO – Fire again sweeps through the central section of the city – only recently re-build after the fire bombings of the B-29’s.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
JERSEY CITY – The community, with demonstrations on a mass basis the value of body conditioning – with vivid results.

MARINE REVIEW
The leathernecks flex their muscles and put on an impressive show of strength at Camp Pendleton, California. As usual they’re ready.

LOS ANGELES – A spectacular blaze razes the grandstand and club house of the sumptuous Hollywood Park track.

HOVER HONORED
SAN FRANCISCO – Former President Hoover receives, by proxy, the annual Humanitarian award of the International Variety clubs.

NEW YORK – Two girls and two boys, born within an hour bring quadruplets to track star Charles Collins and his wife.

NEW YORK – The new nation of Israel is admitted to the family of nations as Arab representatives leave the hall in protest.

REDS EXECUTED IN SHANGHAI
SHANGHAI – As thousands still flee the surrounded city Red fifth columnists are executed in the street – dispatched by pistol shots.

COTTON CARNIVAL
MEMPHIS – The city goes festive as King Cotton rules. A colorful parade and fireworks mark monarch’s rule for a day.

BLOCKADE LIFTED
BERLIN – After almost a year, trucks, cars and trains are rolling into the capital which has been blockaded by the Russians for 324 days. The airlift, however, still stands by – just in case.

SUPPLIES POUR IN TO BERLIN BY LAND
After a year of heroic work by the airlift, trucks and trains roll into Berlin – the blockade broken. Stock piles begin to mount against future emergencies, and children get their first oranges.

HOLLAND TUNNEL RENT BY BLASTS
NEW YORK – A truck loaded with carbon disulphide, colliding with another, sets off explosions and first that rip 300 feet of the tunnel and injure 66, as motorists flee the under-water vehicular passage.

CAPOT WINS PREAKNESS
In a driving finish, the colt which was nosed out in the Derby, wins a photo decision over Palestinian in a race that has Pimlico fans gasping.

CHICAGO – America and Europe tangle in the international Golden Gloves which sees some sizzling action, with America winning five matches to three.

PRESIDENT ASKS BOND SUPPORT
As a means of keeping the nation economy stable President Truman addresses his plea to every American to buy government bonds and keep down inflation.
