U.S.C., OHIO STATE TIE

TOP U.S. COMMUNISTS FOUND GUILTY
NEW YORK – “Guilty” is the verdict of the jury in the nine-month-old trial of the top U.S. communist leaders. Thus ends one of the longest trials in history, with conviction of criminal conspiracy against the U.S. Judge Harold Medina, who will pass sentence, also found six defense lawyers guilty of criminal contempt.

HONG KONG GIRDS AGAINST REDS
HONG KONG – Timely films from the British Crown colony of Hong Kong – not in the path of the invading Chinese communists. While British re-inforcements arrive, and Spit-fires patrol the skies above the island, life in the bustling metropolis goes on as usual.

CORNELL CRUSHES YALE
The Big Red powerhouse from Ithaca rides roughshod over the underdog Bulldog at New Haven, administering the worst defeat a Yale team has ever suffered in the Bowl. Final score, 48-14

NOTRE DAME ROUTS RULANE SOUTH BEND – The Fighting Irish again prove to be one of the most destructive forces ever loosed on a football field, striking hard and often to turn back Tulane, 46-7, in a tornado of destruction.

CALIFORNIA UPSETS U.S.C.
BERKELEY – With a thrilling 102-yard touchdown romp in the final period, the California Bears come from behind to score a 16-19 upset over the Southern Cal. Trojans.

WASHINGTON – Air Force Secretary Symington and General Bradley chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff strongly denounce Admirals for imperiling the national security by airing defense tactics.

NEW YORK – On the fourth anniversary of the UN, Pres. Truman comes to New York to lay the cornerstone of the great United Nations headquarters rising on the city’s East Side. Government, state, city and UN officials hear him dedicate the place to peace.

$3,000,000 IN DIAMONDS SHOWN
NEW YORK – Rare and costly diamonds costing many millions are on display at the Plaza, where pretty models wear necklaces, bracelets and other fabulous items that will dazzle you. The largest is a 100-carat pendent of spectacular beauty.

AZUSA, CALIF. – First pictures of the spectacular wreck of the Santa Fe’s El Capitan. No deaths are reported following the derailment, even though six cars and the Diesel left the rails.

WASHINGTON – The worst air disaster in the nation’s history brings death to 55 over the capital’s airport as a Bolivian fighter plane crashes into a transport coming in for a landing.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CAL. – Driven by a strong wind a wall of flames sweeps over 10,000 acres razing every building in its path and making scores homeless.

WASHINGTON – Admiral Forrest Sherman succeeds Admiral Denfeld as chief of Naval Operations and expresses his confidence in the backing of navy personnel.

DUKE WRECKS GEORGIA TECH
ATLANTA – The Rambling Wrecks from Georgia Tech bump into too much football from power-packed Duke which cops the Duke 27 to 14.

USC WINS 40-28 OVER WASHINGTON
SEATTLE – The Trojans uncork just a little too much razzle-dazzle for the Huskies, with Jim Powers supplying just that – the power.

TRUMAN HAILED IN SAINT PAUL
ST. PAUL – Pres. Truman gets a hearty reception from 400,000 persons in the Twin Cities as he arrives to take part in Minnesota’s centennial celebration. Mr. Truman also campaigns for his party, and asserts that his Fair Deal steers between the revolutionary left and the despairing right.

EVANSTON – The Wisconson Badgers ride to a 14-6 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats. The right arm of Quarterback Bob Petruska passes the Badgers to victory and keeps them in the Big Ten race.

STANFORD BLASTS U.S.C.
LOS ANGELES – Blasting the Rose Bowl dreams of Southern Cal. while keeping their own strong, the Indians of Stanford go on the football warpath with a surprising 34-13 victory.

ELGIN FIELD, FLA. – Dramatic scenes of daring mid-air rescue! When the parachute of Pvt. Charles Dye collapses, he is grabbed by Sgt. Marvin Smith and together the two men drop down to a safe landing. For his heroism, Sgt. Smith is decorated during a Washington ceremony.

ENGLAND – The British frigate “Amethyst” gets a tumultuous welcome when she returns from China. The ship and heroic crew withstood weeks of siege from Red guns in action along the Yangtse River.

CHICAGO – Vice Pres. Alben Barkley makes headlines again when he is honored as the Grandfather of the Year. The nation’s top grand-pop plans to marry a second time soon.
