PHILADELPHIA – Valiantly fighting Pennsylvania comes within two points of scoring the upset of the year, but finally yield to the Army power by the narrow margin of 14 to 13.

WASHINGTON – President Truman is principal speaker as the National Council of Negro Women honor Doctor Ralph Bunche for his services as mediator in Palestine.

NEW BOMBER UNVEILED
BALTIMORE – The newest thing in jet bombers is put through her paces. With three jet engines purring, the big ship is fast – but how fast only the Air Force knows, until further tests are made.

NEW YORK – It’s a pooch parade in the grand manner, as the canine aristocracy models the latest in canine chapeaux and doggy styles.

PORTLAND, ORE. – It’s one of the big upsets of the week when the underdog Beaver of Oregon State comes from behind in the closing minutes to topple Michigan State 25-20. An intercepted pass leads to the thrill of the game.

BERMUDA – After three nights and four days adrift on a stormy Atlantic, 18 survivors of a Super-fort crash landing tell of their thrilling rescue by a Canadian destroyer, after the greatest air-sea search in peace time history.

PALO ALTO – The California Golden Bears win the right to play in the Rose Bowl again by defeating the Stanford Indians, 33-14.

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The unbeaten Cavaliers run into trouble when they meet the Green Wave of Tulane. Aerials and long runs give Tulane a 28-14 victory.

YALE CRUSHES HARVARD
NEW HAVEN – In 66th meeting of traditional rivals, the Blue-clad gridders of Yale, sparked by Capt. Levi Jackson, smother the Harvard Cantabs, 29-6.

LONDON – England’s leading designers trot out their latest creations for Princess Margaret Rose, who is wearing a very charming chapeau of her own.

JAPANESE PRINCE MEETS HOT DOG
TOKYO – Prince Akhito and his two sisters, after meeting Mrs. Douglas MacArthur at a horse show, have a go at hot dogs and enjoy them.

FLOATING DOWN TO MUNICH
GERMANY – A ten hour trip on a log raft provides thrills and magnificent scenery along the Isar river.

POMP AND PAGENTRY
INDIA – All the regal trappings of the fabulous maharajas is on display during a ten-day festival. Elephants and the royal cavalry make a brilliant showing and at night the palace is a mass of lights.

SKI DEBUT
MOUNT HOOD, ORE. – Demon skiers wax up the skis and make their first runs down beautiful Mount Hood, with a full assortment of spills for those who have gotten a little rusty during the summer months.

SPAIN – When Senorita Cintro tangles with the bull, the customers see not only a pretty bull fighting but a very pretty girl. Then there’s a group of gents who make like ten pins for the bull to knock down.

From coast to coast, the sound of jingle bells is heard. In New York, millions line the sidewalks for a sight of monsters floating fifty feet in the air on helium. In Philadelphia the pageant of toys and Santa’s greeting enthralls the small fry, while in Hollywood motion picture folks put on a unique show of their own.

DALLAS – A big airliner is reduced to a flaming wreck as two of its engines fail while approaching for a landing. The plane crashes into a hangar, then a chemical plant. Miraculously 18 survive the holocaust.

BOGOTA, COLOMBIA – The brother of the liberal candidate is slain, as Colombia goes to the polls to elect Laureano Gomez as their new conservative party president.

NEW SKY GIANT TAKES A BOW
LONG BEACH, CAL. – The army gets the Globe-master, new work horse of the air which can pack twenty-five tons and takes its load through the nose.

ENGLAND – Britain’s war time leader is feted on his seventy-fifth birthday and present to greet him is political foe Prime Minister Atlee.

N.D. NOSES OUT S.M.U. BY 27 TO 20
DALLAS – The Irish have to turn on full power against the Mustangs in a game that has the fans yelling themselves hoarse. Only a last minute drive keeps Notre Dame in the unbeaten ranks for 38 games.

NEW YORK – The Eagles soar high and when it’s all over there pro-rivals Giants, are reduced to midgets by lopsided 24 to 3 score.

NEW YORK – Thomas Lanphier, Pacific war ace, sets a new passenger plane record by girdling the globe in four days and 23 hours, commemorating the forty sixth anniversary of the flight at Kitty Hawk.

BUMPER HERRING CROP
BRITISH COLUMBIA – Sixty seven thousand tons herring pour into the holds of fishing boats, as thousands of gulls wait for a handout they don’t get.

LOUIS KAYOES VALENTINO
CHICAGO – The Brown Bomber shows he still has it as he batters Pat Valentino into submission, in eight rounds of a ten round exhibition.

STRONG FAMILY
CANADA – The six Bayerjon brothers show Max Baer, no weakling himself, what a set of family muscles can do – like lifting horses and pulling a bus with their teeth.

NEW YORK – The Oregon State Beavers win a thrill packed game from NYU’s Violets, getting a 49 to 45 decision in the final seconds of play.

HART GETS TROPHY
NEW YORK – The Heisman trophy for the outstanding football player of the year goes to Leon Hart, Notre Dame’s giant end.

WEST TRENTON, N.J. – The Chase XC-123 Assault Transport, a twin-engined craft designed to transport troops and supplies to forward combat areas, takes off for initial test flights – proves her wings for the Air Forces.

HISTORIC WARSHIP SUNK
OFF ENGLAND – H.M.S. Implacable, the oldest wooden warship in the world, is blown up and sunk, her usefulness outlived. The ship was originally French, fought against the British at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

GERMAN BYMNASTS COMPETE
BERLIN – First time in seven years – the famed Three-Cities championships. Skillful aerial artistry on the parallel and horizontal bars. Berliners are wild in their enthusiasm for the spectacular exhibition.

THE SHAH VISITS HOOVER DAM
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – One of the highlights of the Shah of Iran’s U.S. visit – a trip to Hoover Dam where the young monarch surveys the vast construction project he hopes to reproduce in his own water-starved land.
