NEW YORK, N.Y. – Vacation days over, the country’s youngsters shine up their shoes and get their ears all cleaned, to renew their quest for learning. ALL SAVED AS SHIP CRASHES WHARF IN “MIRACLE ACCIDENT”
ST. JOHNS, ORE. – A crippled steering apparatus sends the Japanese steamer, Kohwa Maru, through a pier-head at a terrific speed, when its motors fail to respond to a reverse order. The prow ploughs its way 110 feet through the dock, while the crew tries to halt its course with anchors. The men scramble to safety overboard and escape uninjured but the boat is badly damaged by the impact which caused a property loss of $30,000.

AKRON, OHIO – The new giant Navy dirigible is rolled out of the dock in which it was constructed and is prepared for flight by an eager and diligent crew. With motors tuned and equipment tested the new queen of the skies, the largest of its type, slides off the ground for a successful maiden voyage. The huge 785 foot ship dwarfs everything within range as it noses upward for its initial experience in the air.

FIND RICH RELICS IN EXCAVATING ANCIENT ROMAN METROPOLIS
ST. ALBANS, ENGLAND – Archaeologists searching for treasures of antiquity uncover ruins of the city of Verulamium beneath this community, indicating the existence on the site of a wealthy and beautiful settlement about 1600 years ago. Mosaic flooring, skeletons of animal life, and rare pottery specimens are discovered, to the delight of historians the world over.

VENICE, ITALY – King Victor Emmanuel and the imperial family are numbered among the thousands lining the banks of the Grand Canal to view the famous water carnival. Throughout the summer vacation the youngster worked, night and day, making the craft from discarded orange crates, boxes, and his mother’s clothes line. In the trial the dingus collapses like an airplane of cards when the main spar gives way. Only John’s dignity suffers in the crack-up.

STAPLETON, N.Y. – After a thrilling five-mile chase, the enforcement squad captures “Baldy” Jim Deering, notorious king of rum row, and a dangerous band of smugglers. Unmindful of the warning issued by the government men, the bootlegger puts his swift speedboat to sea and attempts to clued his pursuers. His stubborn resistance is met with shell-fire, the gang is caught, and the cargo of illicit liquor confiscated. One of the most remarkable action pictures ever caught by the camera.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – After an epochal rescue by the motorship Belmoira, Fernando de Costa, Willy Rody and Christian Johanssen are transferred to the Norwegian liner Stavangerfjord which carries them here – the unachieved goal of their flight from Lisbon. Exclusive pictures at sea chronicle this event. Brought to this city by steamship, the German aces and their Portuguese companion are heartily welcomed. Only de Costa shows effects of the mis-adventure. Suffering from injuries received in the crash of the Junkers mono-plane, and from the effects of starvation he is carried ashore, there to await quick recovery from his hurts.

REDS BLAMED FOR DEATH OF 22 IN TRAIN BOMBING
TORBAGY, HUNGARY – The Budapest-Vienna express is wrecked when an explosion, attributed to anti-capitalists, blows up a viaduct, derailing the crack flier. Hampered by wreckage, rescue workers experience difficulty saving the injured and extricating the bodies of the dead in six of the cars that were hurled into a deep ravine. Three other coaches hang over the snapped structure of the bridge and three remain on the tracks. Notes found on the device that caused the disaster credit the outrage to radical propagandists.
