Argentine Army Revolt Against Their Pro-Axis President
Revolution ignites in the Argentine as the Argentine Army revolts to remove pro-Axis President Ramon Castillo. Moving into Buenos Aires at dawn, army units take over government buildings in a dramatic move against their President and his administration. The unpopular president is forced to resign due to his pro-axis sentiments.
Artillery units command strategic points throughout the Capital, the third largest city in the Western hemisphere, as the military wins control. The most serious violence occurrs at the Navy School for Mechanics during a 45-minute machine gun battle. In the general confusion and rioting, 40 people were killed. By afternoon, the city is quiet. Army leaders, General Arturo Rawson and General Pedro Pablo Ramirez, appear before the populace gathered in Plaza de Mayo.
