Bridgehead Extended At Remagen

Shows the Ludendorff railroad bridge over the Rhine River at Remagen Germany, the only bridge captured intact by Allied Forces. In March 1945 the Remagen bridge, after being damaged by the retreating Germans, was by captured by the lead elements of the 27th Armored Infantry Division, Combat Command B, U.S. 9th Armored Division of the U.S. 1st Army during Operation Lumberjack. As U.S. Combat Engineers worked to stabilize the damaged bridge, American tanks, artillery and troops were pouring across in a slow steady stream to the east bank. The Ludendorff Bridge collapsed 10-days after it's capture. Scenes of the collapsed Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen Germany and the rescue of injured Combat Engineers that was on the bridge when it collapsed.
