Holland - Battle Of The Scheldt
The Allied effort to clear the Scheldt Estuary in the Netherlands. British and Canadian troops descend ladders onto barges for amphibious assault on the South Beverland and Walcheren Islands spearheaded by fleets of Allied bombers. Bombers raid south Beverland and Walcheren Islands.
Allied troops walking through the mud flats at Flushing (Walcheren Island) to reach solid ground, immediate objective is the capture of the Port of Flushing (Vlissingen). After stiff resistance shows Germans surrendering to British troops. Wounded are treated and loaded onto trucks.
Loading and firing of large artillery guns. Tank equipped with a flail device (flail tank) used to explode planted anti-tank mines moving along a road. British troops search houses; Nazis emerge and surrender. A Dutch woman is removed from a burning shelter.
Poland - The Russian Advance
Russian Marshal Konstantin Rokossovosky observes Russian tanks and infantry advancing toward Lublin, Poland. Various scenes of Russian tanks loaded with infantry soldiers. Long-range Russian artillery firing; flight of Russian planes dropping bombs. Russian infantry and tanks crossing the shallow Bug River. Horse-mounted Russian Calvary troops attack (charging) German positions.
Russian troops and tanks are greeted as they enter Helm (Cheim), Poland followed by Polish troops. Polish soldiers are cheered and warmly greeted by the people of Helm (Cheim) Poland. Polish patriots sentenced to death by the Germans behind bars in a jail freed by Polish soldiers.
Russia - Churchill Visits Stalin
Prime Minister Winston Churchill poses for photograph with Russian Dictator Joseph Stalin in Moscow. Other personages include Secretary of State for War Anthony Eden, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Molotov, and American Special Envoy W. Averell Harriman.
