Holland - Battle Of The Scheldt
The Allied effort to clear the Scheldt Estuary in the Netherlands. British and Canadian troops descend ladders onto barges for amphibious assault on the South Beverland and Walcheren Islands spearheaded by fleets of Allied bombers. Bombers raid south Beverland and Walcheren Islands.
Allied troops walking through the mud flats at Flushing (Walcheren Island) to reach solid ground, immediate objective is the capture of the Port of Flushing (Vlissingen). After stiff resistance shows Germans surrendering to British troops. Wounded are treated and loaded onto trucks.
Loading and firing of large artillery guns. Tank equipped with a flail device (flail tank) used to explode planted anti-tank mines moving along a road. British troops search houses; Nazis emerge and surrender. A Dutch woman is removed from a burning shelter.
