Cosmonaut training, spacecraft launches and early Sputnik missions
This unedited archival footage documents Soviet space-program activity during the 1950s and 1960s, including cosmonaut preparation, spacecraft assembly and launch operations, public displays of missile technology, and early satellite missions.
Scenes include: Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova being fitted with space suits; cosmonauts traveling to launch facilities and training in a high-G centrifuge; Soyuz spacecraft and rockets in assembly buildings, transport to launch pads and launches; cosmonaut food testing; May Day parades with rockets and ICBMs; large tracking antennas and space-museum exhibits; Sputnik 1 launch and orbital animation; and the space dogs Albina, Laika and Mushka, including Laika inside the Sputnik 2 capsule and Sputnik 2 launch preparations.
This 25:59 title preserves silent color and black-and-white archival material from the Soviet Union for documentary, editorial, educational and research use.
