French President Charles De Gaulle Visits South America
On the first lap of his 20,000 mile South American tour, President Charles De Gaulle of France is acclaimed by the populaces of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. Tight security marks the progress of the French leader because of the know presence in South America of former French-Algerian colonists, many of whom are dedicated to his destruction. President De Gaulle, though he will be 74 in November, shows no fear and goes among the people with soldierly unconcern. In his talks to the South Americans, he asks for better political ties and greater economic cooperation.

A-11 Variant Fighter Of The SR-71 Makes First Public Flight
The first public flight of the A-11 at Edwards Air Force Base, California. This is the jet interceptor, the existence of which was revealed by President Lyndon B. Johnson last February. A revelation meant to answer critics who said the United States was falling behind in manned jet air fighters. The new airplane carries a deadly air-to-air missile and is said to be the highest flying and fastest jet known to exist. Its’ top speed is said to be 2,500 miles per hour. It can reach an altitude of 100,000 feet.

The Davis Cup drama at Cleveland is climaxed when Australia’s Roy Emerson and Chuck McKinley of the United States duel across the net. The Aussie wins before a tense crowd and takes the traveling Davis Cup home after it had rested only one year in America.
