West Germans Re-Elect Chancellor Konrad Adenauer

A striking triumph for the free world is the re-election of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's Christian Democrat government in West Germany. With 85 percent of the eligible West German voters casting ballots, Adenauer wins despite efforts of communist agitators to interfere. Shows arrest and search of communist agitators in West German during elections.

France Unveils New Jet Fighter & Fertile Myrtle Launches Rocket Plane

France unveils its SNCase (Sud-Est) SE-5000 Baroudeur aircraft. The French unveil a new fighter interceptor, the "Baroudeur", which is launched from a trailer and lands on skids. It is independent of airfields.

In the United States Lt. Colonel Marion Carl flew a NACA (later became NASA) Douglas D-558-2 (D-558-II) Skyrocket experimental high-speed aircraft to an altitude of 83,235 feet, a new record. The Skyrocket aircraft was launched from a Navy P2B-1S mother ship nicknamed "Fertile Myrtle", the Navy's version of the B-29.

Again France makes aviation headlines with its new school for precision and stunt flying. The camera gives you a pilot's eye view of the aerobatics. Point of view (pov) of stunt pilot doing aerobatics.

1953 speed trials at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The Engineering Achievement Award goes to the Shadoff Special Streamliner owned by Mal Hooper, built by Carl Fleishmann, designed by Dean Batchelor. This racer also was known as the Hooper-Brown Streamliner. The Chrysler V8 engine in this racer was prepared by Ray Brown.
