1932 Boston Marathon

Setting a terrific pace for the 26-mile Boston Marathon course, and just missing the record by a half minute, Paul De Bruyn , German-American star, romps home to a sterling victory in the 36th running of the Patriot’s Day marathon (Boston Marathon) in Boston Massachusetts. With machine-like strides the German toe ace wears out a field of 220 of the country’s best distance runners. Trudging shoulder to shoulder over the last six miles with James P. Jimmy Henigan, last year’s winner, De Bruyn lets go with a powerful spurt that wilts the 40-year old titleholder in sight of the finish line. Strong and capable at the end of the long grind, the winner is clocked in the marvelous time of 2:33:2.5 and his victory earns him a place on Germany’s team at the Olympic Games this Summer.
