Troops Sent To Put Down Ohio Mining Strike
Scenes of coal miner strike at Cadiz, Ohio. Unrest among workers in the soft coal fields of the Hocking Valley and Sunday Creek sections of Southeastern Ohio is aggravated by threats of operators to put non-union labor on the job. Massed movements against the mines are organized by dissatisfied employees, and National Guard units are rushed into the strike area to maintain law and order. Shows an injured man being treated. Armed soldiers take up strategic positions to restrain the maneuvers of the men. Shows coal miners marching through the main street of Cadiz Ohio.
Andrew Mellon Arrives In England As New U.S. Ambassador
Andrew Mellon, ex-Secretary of the Treasury, leaves a ship and arrives at Waterloo train station in London, England where he is greeted by a large crowds as United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Boy Scouts Help Animals To Sign Drive Safely Petition
Nature students of the Boy Scouts make a trip to the Bronx Zoo and “secure names” for one of the most humane petitions New York City Mayor James J. Walker has received during his term of office. The youngsters, hoping for a greater degree of freedom for small animals, visit retreats of the raccoons, ‘possums, woodchucks, squirrels, song birds, turtles, and toads where they take “impressions” to a scroll that is presented to Mayor Walker. Interceding for the helpless animals the boys ask the Mayor to issue a proclamation exhorting motorists to be more careful of little animals on the road.

North Shore Railroad Makes Trucks Easier To Use On Rail
Seeking to meet truck motor transport rivalry, the North Shore Line railroad inaugurates a novel and unique system for freight movement that insures rapid delivery without delays or hazards. Loaded motor trucks carrying minimum loads of 15,000 pounds, are driven on to railroad flat-cars and shipped, by rail, to points as far distant as Racine, Wisconsin. Merchants and manufacturers get the benefits of the method that provides a means for truck delivery right to the consignee’s door, without risking traffic tangles, or engine trouble on long hauls. A new day for railways looms with the acceptance of the new system that may herald dividends for worried stockholders.
1932 Boston Marathon
Setting a terrific pace for the 26-mile Boston Marathon course, and just missing the record by a half minute, Paul De Bruyn , German-American star, romps home to a sterling victory in the 36th running of the Patriot’s Day marathon (Boston Marathon) in Boston Massachusetts. With machine-like strides the German toe ace wears out a field of 220 of the country’s best distance runners. Trudging shoulder to shoulder over the last six miles with James P. Jimmy Henigan, last year’s winner, De Bruyn lets go with a powerful spurt that wilts the 40-year old titleholder in sight of the finish line. Strong and capable at the end of the long grind, the winner is clocked in the marvelous time of 2:33:2.5 and his victory earns him a place on Germany’s team at the Olympic Games this Summer.
Alcohol Prohibition Repealed In Finland
Helsingfors (Helsinki) Finland, happy days are here again as prohibition in Finland is repealed. Thirsty thousands pour into the restaurants, cafes and nightclubs of Finland as the 12-year old Prohibition Law is abolished and the sale of strong beverages is put into the hands of the country’s rulers to raise revenue. A last minute threat of an embargo by innkeepers to combat price inflation is adjusted and fresh stocks of imported spirits are offered to the public. The bootleggers, king of the rum trade since 1919, dry up and take their place in the republic’s history.
