Trucks carrying supplies on beachhead near Cape Gloucester, New Britain. Due to the steep, rugged terrain ammunition, supplies, and artillery had to be carried or moved inland by hand. Troops dig gun emplacement. Japanese dive bombers attack U.S. naval fleet off New Britain and sinks destroyer USS Brownson (DD-518). Shows Japanese plane shot down, trailing smoke in drive toward ocean. Image of USS Brownson sinking. Shows rescue of survivors of USS Brownson. Infantry troops on the front lines trudge through rain and mud and more mud. Shows Medical Officers (doctors) scrubbing up for emergency surgical care outside hospital tent in the jungle.
