Trucks carrying supplies on beachhead near Cape Gloucester, New Britain. Due to the steep, rugged terrain ammunition, supplies, and artillery had to be carried or moved inland by hand. Troops dig gun emplacement. Japanese dive bombers attack U.S. naval fleet off New Britain and sinks destroyer USS Brownson (DD-518).
