Attack! The Battle For New Britain
This film focuses on the Battle For New Britain, code word Overpower. Several staging areas are set-up along the coast of New Guinea that will become the jumping off place for the invasion of New Britain. Shows men, equipment, and weapons of a task force. Tents are erected, jungle growth cleared, bridges constructed. New Guinea Natives build thatched roof huts. Signal Corp soldier climbs a palm tree to attach communication or telephone wires. Soldiers in food mess line. Bugle wake up call or reveille. Battle plan is illustrated with use of an animated map.
Men and weapons are inspected and training begins for the invasion of New Britain. Soldiers firing rifles, artillery, and using flamethrowers. New Guinea Natives (Bongs) help train the troops in jungle warfare. Buffalo and Alligator amphibious LVT (Amtraks) are used in a practice assault. Men, weapons, equipment, and supplies are loaded on ships. General Douglas MacArthur has last minute chat with the task force commander. LVTs move out to load onto "mother ship" and solders climb cargo nets to board troop transport ship.
