International Championship Lifeboat Race
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. A Norwegian life-boat crew victorious in the fifth annual renewal of the International Life-Boat Race as the oarsmen from the S.S. Bergensfjord sweep through the Narrows and over the two-mile course to the finish line in 24 minutes and 12 seconds to win the Gold Cup of the Neptune Association. The banks of New York Bay are lined with 100,000 spectators as the twelve skiffs slide past the starter's mark and pull into the choppy bay waters.
Massive Mudslide In Mexico Kills Hundreds
Coscomatepec Veracruz Mexico: landslide. An avalanche of black mud and debris moves down the valley after Tiamapa Mountain disappears and leaves ruin and havoc in its wake. Rescuers, digging into the devastated wreckage, discover an entire village obliterated in the mysterious catastrophe, the origin of which still baffles natives and officials.
Racewalker Henry Hank Cieman Wins Heel-N'-Toe Classic
Henry "Hank" Cieman, world's Racewalking (Race-Walking) champion, leads a field of 91 in the 31-mile walk in Atlantic City New Jersey from Egg Harbor to the noted seashore resort. The Toronto athlete completes the race in 5 hours, 24 minutes and 10 seconds. He sets a swift swinging pace from the start and is never headed. Ernest Crosbie, of Baltimore, Md., valiantly tries to overtake the leader, but his best efforts get only second place money.

Shipments far exceeding 50,000 gallons are daily being sent to the eastern markets as factory workers rush the process to meet the heavy demands for Wine-Bricks.
Hat Fashion Worn By Empress Eugenie Takes America By Storm
The styles that upset the third Napoleonic era are revived and the hat that set an empire dizzy delivers a telling blow to the tastes of milady's millinery of this generation. Driving Miss England II at a grueling pace the English sportsman Kaye Don flashes across the finish line a mile ahead of his American rivals in the first heat of the speedboat classic. The daredevil Briton forces his powerful craft around the dangerous course at an average rate of 89,913 miles per hour, leaving George and Gar Wood in his wake. A half-million persons along the banks are awe-stricken by the thrilling motorboat spectacle which, on the second trial, ended in disaster for the doughty Englishman.
