Off Coast of Chile – Thrilling scenes aboard Chilean whalers in search of the big mammals in their ocean haunts. One big fellow gets away when the harpoon gun misses, but a bumper crop is brought back for valuable oil.
JAPANESE LAUNCH FREIGHTER
Another boost to Japan’s slowly-reviving industrial might is a freighter, launched amid Oriental fanfare and christened by Mrs. Ridgway, wife of the U.S. Commander in Japan.

AIR TRAGEDY AS BOMBER CRASHES INTO APARTMENT BUILDING
A B-50 bomber, designed to carry the atomic bomb to distant targets, crashes shortly after takeoff into an apartment building, enveloping it in a sea of burning gasoline. Six crew members and six occupants of the building lost their lives.
