PEACE TREATY HALT COMMUNIST ATTEMPT TO BLOCK JAPANESE PACT AT SAN FRANCISCO
Big news from the Japanese Peace Conference at the Civic Center in San Francisco is the unified action by 48 of the Pacific War allies to block the Soviet attempt to delay the pact signing. John Foster Dulles, architect of the humanitarian treaty, and State Secretary Dean Acheson, lead the free world forces in setting up stiff procedural rules. President Harry S. Truman addresses the opening session, telling the world that those nations that want peace will speedily sign the pact.
ICE CAPADES SHOW BRINGS A DAZZLING EXHIBITION OF SKATING
The 12th edition of the Ice Capades goes to press before an enthusiastic audience. With lovely Donna Atwood and graceful Bobby Specht as co-stars of the glittering spectacle, and amusing antics by the clowns, the Ice Capades proves a dazzling exhibition of skill and grace in a fresh-frozen setting.

Britain’s biggest peacetime oil fire ever – 12,000,000 gallons going up in smoke at Avonsmouth – presents a spectacular sight, and a dangerous one, as firemen fight the stubborn oil blaze through the night.
48 NATIONS SIGN JAPANESE TREATY ENDING THE PACIFIC WAR
The Pacific War comes to an official end, six years after, as forty-eight nations sign a peace treaty with Japan. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko and his communist stooges walk out after taking a parliamentary beating from the allies.

Baseball’s Miracle Team of 1951, the stretch-running N.Y. Giants, come from behind in a dramatic ninth inning drive to beat the Dodgers in the final game of the pennant play-off. Bobby Thomson’s three-run home run off Ralph Branca turns the tide and the Giants earn the right to battle the Yankees for the World Series crown.
NEW YORK GIANTS WIN BASEBALL WORLD SERIES OPENER
At Yankee Stadium, in the first game of the 48th World Series, Leo Durocher’s 'Cinderella' team does it again. Another home run, this time Alvin Dark’s in the sixth with two on, wraps it up for the Polo Grounders, who defeat the favored New York Yankees 5 to 1. Monte Irvin’s dramatic steal of thome against Reynolds in the first inning is another highlight of a thrilling game.
