All 36 passengers and crewmen of an Air Force “Flying Boxcar” are dead in the twisted wreckage of the transport that crashed into a fog-shrouded peak in the French Alps.
NOBEL PRIZE FOR CHEMISTRY IS ANNOUNCED
The 1951 Nobel prize for outstanding accomplishments in chemistry is shared by two U. of Cal. Scientists, Dr. Edwin McMillan and Dr. Glenn Seaborg, top men in the atomic energy field.

Five thousand packages of food collected by the Red Cross is loaded at San Francisco for shipment to Korea. As soon as contact can be established with the Reds, the food will be delivered to the imprisoned men.

Reports that the U.N. Allies and the Communists had begun a 'no-attack' truce along the front are brought to a dramatic halt. After the cease-fire rumors had been scotched, big guns open up along the front. Meanwhile, Vice President Barkley arrives for an inspection trip on his 74th birthday.
AIR RAID TEST HELD IN NEW YORK CITY
New York City responds quickly to its first air raid test. In a matter of minutes, the streets are cleared and pedestrians herded into shelters. Until the sirens sound the all-clear, the world’s biggest city looks like a ghost town.
