In Washington, President Kennedy outlines the program and goals of the 'Peace Corps', which has already drawn enthusiastic response from the Nation’s youth. Scenes show American exchange students in Africa, as forerunners of the Peace Corps, in similar activities.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Twenty-Five years ago, spring burst upon the nation with torrential destructiveness, from Maine to the Alleghenies. After an ice winter, sharp thaws and heavy rains sent the great rivers overflowing their banks to produce disaster over a wide area. Hundreds are killed, hundreds of thousands are homeless, and damages mount into the hundreds of millions. From the Ohio Valley and Western Pennsylvania north to Maine, it’s one of the worst flood disasters in the Nation’s annals.

MILITARY SHOWDOWN LOOMS IN LAOS
Communist-supported military attempts to take over in Laos mount in intensity and world concern is focused on the Southeast Asian land. As the toll in human misery increases, a diplomatic showdown seems near. President John F. Kennedy calls for a cessation of hostilities and constructive negotiations. Meanwhile, reports indicate a security shrouded build-up of U. S. strength in the area with the Supercarrier 'Midway' steaming south from Hong Kong.
PRICELESS CHINESE ART TREASURES ARRIVE IN U.S. FOR NATIONAL TOUR
On Formosa, priceless art treasures of China, long guarded in mountain caves after decades of flight before enemy forces, are once more unveiled for exhibition before shipment to the U.S. for a national tour.
'BABIES DAY' AT THE ROYAL PALACE IN JAPAN
At the new Togu Palace in Tokyo it's Babies' Day, with 1-year old Prince Hiro playing host to a dozen winners of a baby health contest - all happily romping together. It's the first official reception for the Emperor's grandson.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Dr. 'Jafsie' Condon, controversial figure of the Lindberg kidnapping case, returns from vacation on the eve of the execution of the convicted kidnapper and child murderer, Bruno Richard Hauptmann, who goes to his doom in New Jersey State Prison.

On vacation President Franklin D. Roosevelt suns himself on the Chief Executive's yacht and plays host to the Governor of the Bahamas.

A fashion parade of Easter hats shows nostalgia was just as big then as now. Outside St. Patrick's, the Easter parade jams 5th Avenue in New York with a throng of fashion plates, and one who outshines them all animal trainer Clyde Beattie puts some of his toughest big cats through their paces just to show the Mrs. how it's done.

LAOS CRISIS - KENNEDY MEETS MACMILLAN, GROMYKO
President Kennedy flies to Key West, Florida where he confers with British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan on the explosive Laotian crisis. After a joint declaration of their intention to prevent Laos from being taken over by Communist rebels, the President returns to Washington, where he meets Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko who joins President Kennedy in calling for a peaceful solution to the ominous crisis in Laos, but fails to say whether Russia would agree to a cease fire.
FIRST GRAY IN 90 YEARS WINS GRAND NATIONAL HORSE EVENT
At Aintree another thrilling running of the Grand National. Two Russian entries are in the field of 35 starters, but the star of the 4 mile steeplechase ordeal is Nicolaus Silver, the first gray to win the turf classic in 90 years. He takes the richest purse in Grand National history, over $50,000.

SEATO ORGANIZATION TAKES STAND FOR FREEDOM LOAS CRISIS
At the Bangkok, Thailand meeting of Foreign Ministers of the South-East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), with the Laotian crisis at a peak  U. S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk pointedly reaffirms America's policy of freedom from foreign interference for the nations of the strategic area.
DOUBLING UP FOR 'THE GREAT IMPOSTOR' PREMIERE
In New York, a glittering but confusing party by friends of Tony Curtis follows a premiere of the Hollywood film 'The Great Imposter' in which Mr. Curtis stars. A host of Broadway and Hollywood stars mingle with look-alikes for as many more stellar figures, to the bewilderment of all.
WAY OUT MODERN ART ON THE MOVE IN HOLLAND
In Holland, a display of way-out modern 'Machine Sculptures' which are always on the move, and sometimes in a dozen different directions at once. One of the successes of the show is a busily oscillating doohickey that simultaneously turns out yard after yard of abstract paintings, too!
ONLY IN TEXAS, A SWIMMING PIG
'Missey', the swimming pig makes her bid for fame at the San Marcos, Texas Aquarena. Every farm boy knows pigs can't swim, but 'Missey's' pigheadedness licked that problem. Now that she's a star, the ham in her is starting to really take over.
FINE FEATHERS FOR THE MALE CONTINENTAL FASHION SHOW
Continental fashions for men are shown in a colorful summer collection which features plenty of fancy trim, strikingly tailored trousers which boast either slits but no cuffs or flashy cowboy cuffs and dazzling white vests.
NAVY TYKES SCORE A KNOCKOUT AT ANNUAL EVENT
The annual turnout of pee-wee pugilists at Annapolis, With scions of the Navy turning in some rousing scraps in the paperweight division. Some of them can barely lift the big gloves, but they manage to get in there and fight.

EASTER SEASON AROUND THE WORLD
Observances of the joyful day of Easter. In Rome, 300,000 jam St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday to receive the blessing of Pope John. Worshippers emerge from New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral to join Gotham's Easter Parade which blocks all traffic on Fifth Avenue for hours. In Palm Beach, Florida, President and Mrs. Kennedy attend services under heavy security guard after reports of a threat by pro-Castro fanatics. The Hollywood Bowl celebrates the day with the 41st traditional dawn service. A reverent awesome observance.
INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW IS A WORLD WIDE WOW
Nearly 18,000 auto enthusiasts flock to the International Auto Show to see new entries from all over the world. Handsome stock models, breath-taking streamlined sportsters, ingenious new economy cars, and a host of specials for the gadget-minded.
A.A.U. SWIMMING FINALS
At Yale's Payne Whitney Pool, the A.A.U. National Indoor swimming Championships, with record- topping performances in nearly every event. Outstanding are 18-year-old Steve Clark in the 100 yard free-style, Frank Legacki in the 100 yard butterfly, and Australian star Murray Rose in the grueling 440.
RACEHORSE 'CARRY BACK' TAKES FLORIDA DERBY
At Gulfstream Park the $115,000 Florida Derby for three year olds sees 'Carry Back' top colt of' the season, come up to 'win at the wire' in a sensational finish, and emerge still the leading Kentucky Derby candidate.

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER ALLISTER MACMILLAN VISITS U.S.
At the White House, President John F. Kennedy and British Prime Minister Allister MacMillan meet with their top foreign affairs advisers, reaffirming Anglo-American amity in the first full-dress review of international problems by the leaders of the two nations since the start of the Kennedy Administration.
SOVIETS RELEASE SPACE FILMS
Rarely released films from the Soviet of a recent space test with dogs and mice sent aloft into weightlessness  on an extreme high-altitude rocket firing from which the passengers are recovered alive.
SOVIET PREMIER NIKITA HRUSHCHEV TOURS SIBERIA
Soviet Premier Khrushchev tours Siberia to personally investigate lagging agricultural production. Reports tell of numerous farm bosses abruptly shifted to new jobs in his wake. In Kazakhstan, he gives a four hour speech and is toasted at a festive civic reception.
AIR FORCE TESTS REMOTE CONTROL JET BOMBER
In Florida, the Air Force sends aloft a multi-jet B-47 bomber under complete remote control from take-off through every stage of its flight. An amazing stride forward in automation for the Air Force.
ANIMALS LONELY IN WAKE OF ZOO STRIKE
New York's Bronx Zoo is empty of people in the Zoo strike and the animals, although still being fed by their keepers miss the crowds. Sulky zebras, appealing seals, and beseeching bears all get the message across- -­ People Come Back.
GIRLS INTERNATIONAL SOCCER
German Valkyries play host to a team of Dutch Powerful Katinkas in International Soccer. A slippery field keeps scoring low, but an enthusiastic crowd has the time of its life as the gals battle it out - a 1 to 0 victory for Germany.

At the White House, the President meets Helen Keller who, deaf and blind since birth has become a symbol of hope and achievement to the handicapped everywhere.
SETBACK FOR COMMUNISTS IN VIETNAM ELECTION
Election returns in Vietnam's first Presidential election show a landslide victory for pro­ stern President Ngo Dinh Diem despite an all out Red campaign to keep voters from the polls.
THAI BOXING WHERE ANYTHING GOES
Boxing in Thailand, where the national version of the sport includes kicking, cuffing, and elbowing as fair tactics, and every bout in the squared circle is a real 'Pier 6' donnybrook.
