PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY HAILED IN VISIT TO SOUTH AMERICA
President Kennedy begins his venture into personal diplomacy of South America in Puerto Rico where he is greeted by huge throngs before leaving for Caracas, Venezuela, his first stop of his South America tour.

The Presidents' trip was planned to further the Alliance for Progress, a plan for the economic betterment of Latin American nations. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy surprised the citizens of Caracas by speaking to them in Spanish.

The Presidential party then travels on to Bogota, Colombia, where President Kennedy ends his tour with an appeal to Latin America to remember that a democratic government can further economic progress without the repression of liberties.

But Syracuse is used to coming from behind, and All-America Ernie Davis leads them in a come back victory as they wind up on top 15 - 14.

CIRCUS DISASTER IN BRAZIL: HUNDREDS PERISH IN HORRIFIC FIRE
In one of the worst tragedies of modern times, 300 people perish and 600 suffer injuries when a Circus tent catches fire in a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Most of the dead are children, and the wreckage gives mute testimony to the bereavement of hundreds of Brazilian families.
