PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA NEHRU TOURS U.S. AFTER WASHINGTON TALKS
The Prime Minister of India sets off on a ten-day tour of the U.S. after his series of conferences with President John F. Kennedy. One of his first stops is at an amusement center in California where Walt Disney plays host on the eve of Mr. Nehru’s 72nd birthday.
MISS WORLD CONTEST HELD IN LONDON
Ah, beauty… It’s World-Wide. Beauty, like music, knows no language barriers; that's proven once again at the Miss World Contest held in London when beauties from 36 nations parade their charms for the judges.
HORSE RACING
Heavily packed for the mile and a half turf run, champion race horse 'Kelso' is nosed out by 'TV Lark' as the winner sets a new track mark. A Venezuelan horse runs third and one of the Russian entries a bad fourth.

A rejuvenated Columbia eleven is drawing crowds this year for the first time in a decade to see football such as they play against Dartmouth and they claw the Big Green 35 to 14.

Thirty thousand at Cambridge see Harvard beat Princeton by one field goal in their 54th meeting. The Tigers were undefeated in Ivy League play until they traveled to Harvard and a loss.

NATION MOURNS THE PASSING OF HOUSE SPEAKER SAMUEL RAYBURN
Samuel Rayburn, Speaker of the House since 1940, died at the age of 79. A Congressman since 1913, the beloved’ 'Mr. Sam' was equally respected and honored by Democrats and Republicans. He met his end as he met the problems of life – unflinchingly.
RECORD AUCTION - $2,300,000 FOR A REMBRANDT
A Rembrandt masterpiece, 'Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer' brings a price triple that of the previous high for an oil painting; $2.3 million. It was a coup for the New York gallery which out bid London auctioneers for the sale.
QUEEN HAILED ON TOUR OF GHANA
The trip of Queen Elizabeth to Ghana brings many sidelights of interest. She makes a tour of a native market where she hears the raucous voices, that usually are selling produce, now raised in cheers for 'their' Queen. Then she witnesses a surfboat race as 1,000 men in 115 boats battle the waves to race out to a freighter and back.

NATION PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO HOUSE SPEAKER SAMUEL RAYBURN
President John F. Kennedy, along with former Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry S. Truman, lead the nation in paying tribute to House Speaker Sam Rayburn as he is buried in his home town of Bonham, Texas. The humble are there, too, as the beloved statesman is laid to rest in the family plot.
METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART EXHIBITS 2.3 MILLION DOLLAR REMBRANDT
The Metropolitan Museum of Art plays host to a record-breaking crowd of 82,000 as their latest acquisition, a Rembrandt, goes on exhibition. Bought for a record $2.3 million, it is the 'must see' attraction in New York.
QUEEN ELIZABETH FINISHES HER TOUR OF GHANA
Queen Elizabeth is treated to a huge display of native dancing as she ends her visit to Ghana, a former possession that is now an independent member of the British Commonwealth.
HOLLYWOOD FILM 'FLOWER DRUM SONG' IN GALA PREMIER
The motion picture version of the smash Broadway musical opens in New York City at, the famed Music Hall to critical acclaim. There is also a benefit performance in San Francisco where some of the picture was made.

DOMINICANS CELEBRATE DAWN OF FREEDOM
More than 100,000 people celebrate in the streets of the Dominican Republic as they hail what they feel is the end of 30 years of oppressive dictatorship. Units of the U.S. Navy were standing by when two brothers of the slain dictator, Trujillo returned to the country. They quickly returned to exile and two opposition leaders were then free to enter the country.
NASSER PLAYS HOST TO TITO AND NEHRU
Egypt’s President Nasser plays host to Yugoslavia’s Tito and India's Nehru in a Neutralist Summit get-together in Cairo. Nasser is anxious to show the world his prestige hasn’t been dimmedd by the secession of Syria from his United Arab Republic.
WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES MEETS
The Third Assembly, with delegates from 50 countries, convenes in New Delhi. For the first time, the Russian Orthodox Church will participate in the meeting; a major event in the field of inter-church co-operation.
EUROPEAN BODYBUILDERS SHOW THEIR MUSCLES
They pick 'Mr. Europe' and such a display of biceps has not cone about since Popeye downed his last can of spinach. There's a certain man in the audience who takes a close look at himself after the contest. What do you know; no muscles!
HORSE RACING: 'ADIOS DON' IN COMEBACK WINS RICHEST RACE
The richest race in harness racing history sees a thrilling comeback for 'Adios Don' who was injured early in the season. He puts on a stretch run that noses him home first and he wins $72,000 out of a whopping $145,000 purse.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO:

A quarter of a century ago King Edward VIII gave up his throne for the woman he loved; Mrs. Wallis Warfield Simpson. He was succeeded by his brother who had a daughter who became Queen Elizabeth.

The San Francisco-Oakland bridge was opened. A wonder of its day, it's still the longest single span bridge today.

The predecessor to today’s' wire-photo system, the transmission of pictures over regular telephone lines was demonstrated.

HOPE FADES IN SEARCH FOR MICHAEL ROCKEFELLER
Despite encouraging clues, there seems to be little chance that Michael Rockefeller, 23-year old son of New York’s Governor has survived his ordeal in the jungles of New Guinea. He swam for shore when his boat capsized off the coast. His companion, who stayed with the craft, was rescued but there is no sign of Michael’s fate.
NUCLEAR AIRCRAFT CARRIER 'ENTERPRISE' IS COMMISSIONED
The world's largest ship, the mighty 'Enterprise', joins the United States Navy in ceremonies at Newport News, Virginia. Her flight deck is four and a half acres, she can cruise 150,000 miles without refueling and will carry a complement of 220 planes.
NEW YORKERS PREPARE TO WELCOME SANTA CLAUS
New Yorkers prepare to warmly welcome the grand entry of Kris Kringle into the city as tens of thousands of his fans line the streets to give Santa a rousing welcome.

The President wrestles with a question affecting the lives of thousands of families across the nation. What is the status of the 150,000 reservists who have been called into the armed forces? He is in a serious mood as he takes note of rumors that they will serve more than just a year of duty.
U.S. CHIMP MAKES EARTH ORBIT
The United States space effort takes a giant step as scientists and technicians orbit 'Enos', a 5 1/2-year-old chimpanzee around the earth. His three orbits are cut to two when his cabin heats up; something an astronaut could have corrected, but Enos suffers no ill effects in the flight that is a curtain-raiser to a manned orbital flight.
TEST IN THE PEACEFUL USE OF NUCLEAR ENERGY ALMOST READY
All is nearly ready for Project Gnome, an underground nuclear test, a quarter of a mile deep near Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a test to develop peaceful uses of the atom and there is no danger of air pollution.

The traditional pre-game color sees the Middie and Kaydets march on the field in measured strides. President John F. Kennedy, an old Navy man, tosses the coin for the two captains as they take the field and Navy sinks the Army 13 to 7.

KATANGA TROOPS FIGHT U.N. FORCE
New violence flares in the unhappy Congo as United Nations' troops move in force against rebellious elements in the Katanga Province. The troops of the secessionist province vow to follow a 'scorched earth' policy and fight to the end. A fighter escort now accompanies U.S. cargo planes as they bring in supplies.
PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY URGES PHYSICAL FITNESS
Addressing the Football Hall of Fame Dinner, the President John F. Kennedy touches on his career in the Armed forces under General MacArthur and the General gets a laugh. He then urges Americans to become participants, and not merely spectators in sports and physical fitness.
QUEEN ELIZABETH ENDS AFRICAN TOUR
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip end their African tour in Liberia as they head for home. The Queen built up the prestige of the Empire among newly independent nations on her trip.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALF BACK ERNIE DAVIS WINS HEISMAN TROPHY
The Syracuse whizz-kid, halfback Ernie Davis, receives the Heisman Trophy as the best college player of the year. He ran Syracuse’s opponents ragged and now hopes to play eight or ten years as a pro.

FOUND GUILTY: ADOLF EICHMANN SENTENCED IN ISRAEL
The grim story that began in the horror of Nazi concentration camps has an equally grim end in Israel as Adolf Eichmann is sentenced for his crimes against humanity. The three judges began to study the evidence after the trial ended in August and now they hand down their grim verdict.
BIG FOUR MINISTERS MEET
The four Foreign Ministers of the Allied nations, Dean Rusk of the U.S., Lord Home of Britain, Gerhard Schroeder of West Germany and Maurice DeMurville of France meet in Paris with many critical questions on the agenda - the Congo and West Berlin among the most important.
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE GOES TO SOUTH AFRICAN ALBERT LUTHULI
Albert Luthuli, native leader in South Africa, receives a delayed award of the 1960 Nobel Peace Prize, while Dag Hammarskjold is awarded the 1961 citation posthumously.
BELOVED PAINTER 'GRANDMA' MOSES DEAD AT 101
The beloved primitive painter 'Grandma' Moses dies at the age 101, leaving behind a rich heritage of primitive art. She began painting at the age of 70.
