There are some 64 posts open for work in the South American nation of Colombia, and there are 128 competing for those posts. Physical fitness, language training, Latin-American economics and history will figure in the final ratings.
NEW ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY IS ANNOUNCED
The Reverend Doctor Arthur M. Ramsey is installed as the 100th Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Church of England. In traditional ceremonies he takes an oath of allegiance to the Queen as he assumes the office of primate of all England.
GENERAL GEORGE S. PATTON, JR., IS HONORED BY FRENCH VILLAGE
The man who led the Third Army across France during the famous drive in World War II is honored by the village of St. Symphorien, which he freed from the Nazi invaders.

PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY CHALLENGES REDS TO ALLOW FREE ELECTIONS IN BERLIN
President John F. Kennedy, in his first news conference since the beginning of May, prefaces the question and answer session with a strong statement about the growing crisis in Berlin. He challenges the Russians to let Berliners determine their own fate in free elections; giving them the chance at the self-determination that the Russians supposedly maintain should prevail in all countries.
CONGO LEADER MOISE TSHOMBE REPUDIATES UNITY
Moise Tshombe, President of Katanga province in the Congo, returns home in triumph after being freed from imprisonment by the Central Government. In jail he agreed to bring his seceding province back into the Central fold, but once home he says he's going to govern Katanga himself.
NEW FACILITIES FOR WILL ROGERS HOSPITAL
On the 31st anniversary of the Will Rogers hospital at Saranac Lake, N.Y., three new buildings are dedicated to care for the ill and disabled of the amusement industry. A. Montague outlines the hospital's aims, while Richard Walsh, labor leader presents the man-of-the-year Will Rogers award.
U.S. LAUNCHES ROCKET CONTAINING A RECORD THREE SATELLITES
At Cape Canaveral, Florida, a Thor-Able-Star rocket lofts three satellites aloft in one shoot. The Greb studies sun radiation, the Injun picks up information on the Van Allen belt while the artificial star, the Transit IV-A will guide navigation. Moreover, the Transit is powered by the first nuclear space battery with a life span of 90 years.

ENGLAND INSTALLS NEW ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY
The 100th Archbishop of Canterbury is installed at the revered and historic namesake Cathedral. He's Dr. Arthur Ramsey who becomes the spiritual leader of 42,000,000 members of the Anglican Communion throughout the world.
TAIWAN GETS ITS OWN ATOMIC REACTOR
The first atomic plant in Southeast Asia is opened on the Island of Formosa, where professors and students at the National University can do research on all aspects of medical and scientific research and thus stay a step ahead of the Red Chinese who are also on an atom search.
QUEEN ELIZABETH AND PRINCE PHILLIP STARS OF ROYAL WINDSOR FAIR
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are the stars of the Royal Windsor Fair and show keen interest in the younger exhibitors. The Queen sees a John Bull in the flesh and one of her cows comes through to win a royal prize.
PRECISION PARACHUTE CONTEST, BE IT AIRPLANE OR AUTO
Contestants from a dozen countries took part in parachute leaps to targets. Some leapt from planes with varying luck while others cut loose and wiggled to the target after being airborne by auto tows.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

President Franklin D. Roosevelt is shown at his favorite recreation, sailing along the coast aboard one of his sailing craft. It was a sport that he could take part in despite crippling polio.

Helen Jacobs, after reaching the finals four times at the Wimbledon Women's Tennis matches, makes it the fifth time and becomes the lady champ of England.

The 4th All-Star game sees some of Baseball's immortals in action in one of the greatest of the series. Iron Man Lou Gehrig latches on to a pitch for a homer, showing the form that landed him in the Hall of Fame.

Glenn Cunningham and Jesse Owens show their form in Olympic trials, that brought them glory in the games in Berlin. They were the fastest humans of their day.

An Inventor in Califormia thought up a helicopter that he designed to hover aloft long enough to let the country he wanted to travel to revolve until he was over it. P.S. He didn’t get very far up.

80 MUSLIMS KILLED DURING STRIKES IN ALGERIA
A strike of Muslims in Algeria against the threatened French partition of their nation resulted in 80 dead and nearly 300 injured. They protested against France's plan to isolate the natives if peace talks did not lead to a closer association after independence.
BRITISH TROOPS LAND IN KUWAIT IN MOVE TO STOP IRAQ
As suddenly as a sandstorm a new crisis blows up in the Middle East as newly independent Kuwait is claimed by Iraq part of their territory. British troops return to protect the oil-rich nation.
GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR GETS HERO'S WELCOME IN PHILIPPINES
Never have the streets of Manila been as jammed since the Japanese surrender as millions of Filipinos turn out to welcome one of their national heros; General Douglas MacArthur who is there to celebrate their 15th Anniversary of Independence.
PRO GOLF WOMEN'S OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
After a shaky start, Mickey Wright settles down to take the Women's Open Golf Championship for the third time. She won in 1958 and 1959, but never has she played the brand of golf that brings her a third crown.
YACHT RACING
A picture that most artists could paint; and usually do. More than 40 yachts of all shapes and sizes take off from Los Angeles, CA on a 3-week sail to Honolulu, Hawaii.

A little publicized arm of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is the fleet of the Royal Netherlands Navy. At Scheveningen, the ships parade for Queen Juliana as she reviews them from a pier at the North Sea resort. From battleship and carrier to submarine, the Netherlands fleet is ready for battle at a moment's notice.
ALLIES STOCKPILE SUPPLIES IN WEST BERLIN
In face of renewed Russian threats to recognize East Germany and put access to Berlin in jeopardy, the Allies are pouring supplies into the Free City; enough to sustain the city for a full year, if necessary.
RUSSIANS HOLD TRADE FAIR IN LONDON, ENGLAND
The Russians have trumpeted an increase in consumer goods production and they held a Trade Fair in London, England to prove it. Just what is in production is a secret to the Reds.
PRO TENNIS
After reaching the finals twice, only to fail, Rod Laver of Australia beats Chuck McKinley of the U.S. in straight sets to finally win the coveted Men’s Singles Championship.

HURRICANE TRACKER IS LAUNCHED INTO SPACE
The U.S. satellite 'Tiros' is launched successfully from cape Canaveral and goes aloft as a hurricane tracker. Equipped with two television cameras that record pictures over a 500,000 square mile area, the satellite will be able to warn weathermen of the birth of hurricanes.
WEST GERMAN POLITICIANS IN A SHOW OF UNITY
In a display of bi-partisan unity, Chancellor Konrad Adenauer visits West Berlin and Mayor Willy Brandt, his rival for Chancellor in the coming elections. His visit coincides with an increased flow of refugees from East Berlin who fear the border will be closed by the Communist authorities.
PAKISTAN PRESIDENT MOHAMMAD AYUB KHAN VISITS WASHINGTON
At historic Mount Vernon, President John F. Kennedy holds a state dinner on the lawn in honor of Pakistan President Mohammad Ayub Khan. This is one of the most important state visits this year, from one of our good friends in Asia.
WHEN OSTRICH FARMING, FEATHERS ARE GOLD
Farming in any form is a ticklish business; so you can imagine what it is when you go in for feather farming. They have been raising ostriches for their feathers in South Afr1ca for the last 100 years and they manage to hatch out quite a living at it.
FIRST SCREENING FOR HOLLYWOOD FILM 'TAMMY TELL ME TRUE'
The finals of a nation-wide contest to choose 'Miss Tammy Teenage' is a feature of the world premiere of 'Tammy Tell Me True'. A local gal, Myra Logan makes good and is the star of a parade that precedes the first screening of the picture starring Sandra Dee, John Garvin and Virginia Grey.

EAST GERMANS FLEE BY THE THOUSANDS TO FREEDOM
More than 1, 000 refugees a day pour into West Berlin from the East in face of tightening restrictions and Khrushchev’s threat to recognize East Germany. The influx is the highest since the East German uprising in 1953 as the old and babes in arms all flock to freedom.
RUSSIA DISPLAYS NEW WAR PLANES
In their first air show in five years, the Russians mark Aviation Day with a display designed to impress the West. They unveil a new huge bomber and a new fighter with mid-air rocket boosters.
NEW MISS UNIVERSE IS CROWNED
The field of contestants for the title of Miss Universe is narrowed to 15 at Miami Beach as an East German refugee, Marlene Schmidt wins the nod from the judges. This will shock you; she's returning to her job as an electrical engineer after she fulfills a year of appearances.
U.S. BATTLES RUSSIANS IN TRACK AND FIELD
In the third such contest, U.S. athletes met the Russians in a track Meet. The U. S. men and women set new world records the first day with Frank Budd of Villanova and Wilma Rudolph of Tennessee starring.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO:

A quarter of a century ago the Spanish Civil War began and before it was over 1,000,000 were dead and Franco became dictator.

The Olympic Games were held in Berlin and Hitler took the opportunity to have it serve as a background for his propaganda. Jesse Owens, the fastest human of his day, scored in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

The gals in the Pacific Northwest came up with one for the wacky season; they waxed the seats of their pants and came zooming down the glaciers. One way to beat the heat wave that set in.

CAPTAIN VIRGIL GRISSOM MAKES HISTORIC SPACEFLIGHT
In the pre-dawn darkness at Cape Canaveral, fuel is piped aboard the Redstone rocket that will carry Captain Virgil Grissom aloft in the second act of the drama that the U.S. hopes will put a man on the moon.

Twice postponed because of weather the take-off and flight is perfect, marred only by the loss of the capsule after Grissom is safely out. He went up 118 miles and 303 miles down range, reaching a speed of 5,280 miles per hour.

Dramatic pictures show the Captain's rescue by helicopter and the sinking of the Mercury capsule with the loss of valuable films, though most of the data was monitored during the flight. A salute to Captain Virgil Grissom, America's new space hero.
HORSE RACING
The thermometer stands at 94 degrees at New York's Aqueduct, but the 35,000 on hand have their own temperatures ra1sed by the most thrilling race of the season. The favorite, 'Kelso, is outrun throughout the race by 'Divine Comedy' who is ten lengths ahead at one point. In the stretch however, jockey Eddie Arcaro brings 'Kelso' from his third spot in ahead of the pack to make him the winner of the handicap Triple Crown and winner of eleven straight victories.
