DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION:
CHICAGO – Democratic presidential aspirants arrive in the Windy City on convention eve as a wide open race shapes up. Senator Kefauver, Senator Russell and Averill Harriman are among the early arrivals.

ATLANTIC QUEEN:
NEW YORK – The liner United States arrives to a royal welcome in New York harbor after shattering the east-west crossing record by nine hours. Liner now holds records in both directions.

AIR STRIKE:
KOREA – Five hundred planes blast North Korean power plants in one of the massive air assaults of the war. Marine and South Korean units hammer at Red lines.

OLYMPICS:
HELSINKI – Finland’s capital welcomes athletes from all parts of the world. Russian contenders are isolated in a village remote from the city.

KIDDIE KORNER:
Canada conducts a school of driving for moppets in their foot propelled vehicles, while France exhibits a seven-month old Tiny Tarzan who floats through the air with the greatest of ease.

FAROUK ABDICATES:
ITALY – King Farouk and his entourage take refuge in Italy, after a military coup in Egypt, culminating long political unrest forces him from his throne. His infant son, now King Fuad the Second, joins his father in exile.

ICE MANEUVERS:
IN ARCTIC WATERS – Ice breakers bulldoze a path through heavy pack ice for a frost-be-decked sub in maneuvers. Bitter weather and grueling labor are the price of Arctic know-how.

HOLLAND – Queen Juliana visits her ancestral home, resting from the cares of state.

MISSOURI – A milestone in international history, as President Truman signs the German peace pact.

MARYLAND – The Navy’s women warriors celebrate the tenth birthday of the WAVES.

OLYMPICS:
HELSINKI – U.S. wins over Reds in unofficial point score, as aquatic events bring one of the most exciting Olympics in modern times to a thrill-packed finale.

SEATTLE CENTENNIAL:
SEATTLE – Thousands gather for gala parade marking the city’s 100th anniversary. The city celebrates its Centennial Seafair.

KOREA – A bitter struggle for Baldy ridge overlooking Chorwan rages, as the strategic position changes hands almost from day to day. Both sides lose heavily in the see-saw battle.

INDEPENDENCE, MO. – President Truman and the first lady cast their ballots in the Missouri primaries and greet their neighbors. The presidential backed candidate loses to Stuart Symington, his one-time aide.

IKE SPEAKS:
LOS ANGELES – General Eisenhower attends the encampment of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and voices the articles of political faith in ten points. He also receives the Baruch medal for distinguished service.

MISS UNIVERSE:
FINLAND – Armi Kuusela, voted the most beautiful girl in the world returns to receive plaudits of her people.

ALPINE TROOPS:
ITALY – Mountain troops of the Aosta battalion tackle one of the toughest Alpine peaks – mount Cervino and make it successfully.

LUXURY LINGERIE:
NEW YORK – Ann Blyth, star of “World in His Arms” inspects some of the more ravishing creations for milady’s boudoir.

OLMPIC WINDUP:
HELSINKI – The equestrians take over in the final phase of the 1952 Olympics, with Great Britain wining her first gold medal.

SOAP BOX DERBY:
AKRON,OHIO – Eleven year old Joe Lunn of Columbus, Georgia races to victory in the final heat of the junior speed classic, as a crowd of thousands cheers him on.

KOREAN ELECTIONS:
KOREA – President Syngman Rhee wins decisively with five million votes out of seven million cast in Korea’s first popular election held for president.

ARMY REDUCES:
VIRGINIA – It’s tough on the sarge as he munches on celery at the diet table in the army, while the slender guys feed their faces. It’s tough on the sarge who is hefty and it’s all an experiment.

KOREAN MUD:
KOREA – Korean mud slows up the war as torrential rains transforms the fighting terrain into quagmire. Engineers fight to keep the roads open.

MORE SAUCERS:
VIRGINIA – In an army laboratory at Fort Belvoir you can get a flying saucer made to order or at least a reasonable facsmile, created by physicist Noel Scott. Watch the screen.

NEW CHAPEAUX:
FRANCE – France unveils – with veils some of the most winsome millinery they have created. The models are lovely, too.

GOLD CUP RACE:
SEATTLE – Slo-Mo-Shun-IV, which recently set a record of 170 miles an hour, retained its title on a close course race and raced to the finish mark, unchallenged and unbeaten.

KOREA – President Syngman Rhee bestows medal on General Van Fleet, a token of Korea’s gratitude to the U.S. 8th Army.

NEW YORK – The 21st Annual United Orphans Day Outing brings happiness to some 5000 youngsters of all creeds and colors.

NEW YORK – Fashion footwear for fall features the transparent look, sponsored by the Guild of Better Shoe Manufacturers. Styles designed to bring any male to heel.

RODEO THRILLS:
CALIFORNIA – Horse show and rodeo is highlighted by cowboy-busting broncos after a gala parade and display of local lumbermen’s skill at axe throwing.

CARRIER BLAST

9 DEAD, 32 INJURED AS NAVY JET EXPLODES:
KOREA – Disaster strikes at the aircraft carrier Boxer. A sea of flame envelops the vessel when a landing jet fighter explodes. Before the crew can bring it under control, the flames force 65 sailors to jump over the side – burn 19 planes – injure 32, and kill 9. But major disaster is averted, and the Boxer reaches port on her own power.

NATIONAL WATER SKI MEET:
WISCONSIN – Thrills, chills, and spills at the tenth National Water Ski tournament. Dare-devil maneuvers see the skiers out of the water as much as in it. Aqua-lovelies and flying outboards add to the excitement.

ENGLAND – Flash floods devastate coastal resorts. Villages destroyed, 7 missing, and 24 dead, after nature’s torrential fury strikes.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Marine Major William Barber receives the Medal of Honor for extra ordinary heroism in Korean fighting. His 3 year old son momentarily steals the spotlight when ceremonies begin.

NEW YORK – The Skyblazers, team of 4 aerobatic jet aces return from Germany, demonstrate their daredevil art at 500 mph.

KOREA – Ingenious G.I.’s improvise hot showers at the front, defying mud, cold, and the enemy to make life a little brighter.

SPAIN – Blossoms are in the air at Valencia’s Festival of Flowers. Gaily adorned floats and lovely senoritas set the keynote of the occasion, and everybody pelts everybody else with posies.

NEW YORK – The traditional 40 and 8 Parade gets the American Legion off to a rollicking start for its thirty-fourth national convention. Trick autos, and ingenious replicas of the old 40 and 8 trains of World War One days are a carefree prelude to days of serious business ahead.

VETS HEAR GENERAL IKE AT CONVENTION:
NEW YORK – 14,000 wildly cheering Legionnaires hear General Eisenhower deliver a fighting attack on communism… a non-political speech by the GOP standard-bearer.

EARTHQUAKE AGAIN ROCKS CALIFORNIA:
CALIFORNIA – The second major earthquake in 32 days rocks central California, ravaging Bakersfield’s downtown business area. 2 perish, 27 are injured, as thousand escape harm, despite the cataclysm.

FLEET VISITS PORTUGAL:
SPAIN – 10 U.W. warships drop anchor off Lisbon. Sailors see the senoritas and the bull fights.

CONTINENTAL BEAUTIES VIE FOR TITLE:
NAPLES – Miss Turkey is chosen as the new Miss Europe from an eye-popping bevy of continental beauties.

RIP-SNORTIN’ RODEO:
CALIFORNAI – The eighth annual Sheriff’s Rodeo in Los Angeles see 3 hours of thrill-packed rip snortin’ action, as the nation’s top cowpunchers and riders tackle rough, tough Brahma steers and broncos.

OHIO STATE FAIR:
OHIO – The 100th annual Ohio State Fair gets under way at Columbus. Drawing crowds is the popular Hollywood exhibit, taking visitors behind studio scenes, into displays of movie magic and a wardrobe wonderland. Marjorie “Ma Kettle” Main is on hand, for the human touch.

75,000 MARCH IN LEGION PARADE:
NEW YORK – 75,000 Legionnaires march up Fifth Avenue in the veteran group’s 34th annual parade. Star marchers are Legionnaires Eisenhower and Nixon. Over 3 million watch the colorful pageant, lasting 9 ? hours.

STEVENSON TALKS:
NEW YORK – Governor Adlai Stevenson, Democratic candidate for President, addresses the Legion, warns of the Red Peril that faces us, and cautions against over-zealousness in fighting home-grown Communists.

FASTEST SUBMARINE:
CONNECTICUT – The U.S.S. Trigger, the first submarine that’s faster underwater than afloat, takes her shake-down cruise. She’s the latest contribution to American sea-power.

BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL:
KOREA – G.I.’s fight the see-saw battle of “Bunker Hill.” This contested outpost has changed hands six times in recent fighting. Now, U.S. troops, at heavy cost, hold on. Wounded are flown to hospitalship, cheered by screen star Audrey Totter.

NAVY ELEVEN TRAINS:
MARYLAND – Navy’s 1952 football eleven begins training. Key men are missing from last year’s team, but spirit is high, and as always, Annapolis is pointing for the big game. “Sink the Army” is the motto.

POLITICS:
The 1952 presidential campaign gets its official sendoff as President Truman addresses a labor rally in Milwaukee, presidential candidate Stevenson another in Detroit and Republican aspirant Dwight Eisenhower, the Letter Carriers Association in New York.

BUTTER STATUE:
CANADA – Ross Butler, noted sculptor, fashions a statue of Queen Elizabeth on horse back out of a ton of butter. The statue will be cast into permanent bronze.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE:
FRANCE – The seventy-ninth pilgrimage to the Holy grotto at Lourdes brings hundreds of cripples and sick in the hope that its magic qualities may restore them to health.

NEW LEGION HEAD:
NEW YORK – Lewis K. Gough, 44-year-old California from Pasadena is elected new Commander of the American Legion and makes his acceptance speech.
