A twin jet Canberra bomber races across the Atlantic and back in a blazing speed demonstration. Average speed is over five hundred miles for the 4,000 mile flight from Northern Ireland to Newfoundland, and back – in time for tea!

PARIS – Bernarr MacFadden celebrates his birthday with a parachute jump over the Seine, Admiring crowds watch the spry octogenarian land safely.

WALCOTT, MARCIANO, TRAIN:
Heavyweight champion Jersey Joe Wolcott and Champion Rocky Marciano flex their muscles, in preparation for upcoming title bout.

FALL FASHIONS FEATURE FLOWING FORMS:
PARIS – Fall collections spotlight the “casual line.” Emphasis is away from the angular, towards the curvaceous, sculptured figure for autumn styles.

WOMEN’S AMATEUR GOLF:
OREGON – Mrs. Jacqueline Pung of Honolulu wins the women’s Amateur Golf Tournament in Portland. She’s the first Hawaiian ever to win the title.

ICE CAPADES OF 1953:
NEW JERSEY – Ice Capades previews the 1953 edition at Atlantic City, and the star performer is Olympic Champion Dick Button in his first appearance as a professional, displaying his in-imitable grace and precision on ice.

DOPE RING SMASHED:
SAN FRANCISCO – State narcotics agents smash a million dollar dope ring in Chinatown. Heroin smugglers and peddlers had their headquarters next to a church – but sleuths end their operations after months of undercover work.

ADLAI AND IKE BID FOR FARM VOTES;
MINNESOTA – Eisenhower and Stevenson address the same audience, only a few hours apart, at the national Plowing Contest. The Presidential aspirants are vying for the vitally important farm vote, going directly to the grass roots to do it.

OIL EXPLOSION:
FRANCE – 6 die, 23 are seriously wounded, as an oil refinery explodes. 15 are still missing after the devastating blast.

BABY PARADE:
CANADA – Babyland has a new queen, chosen from over 1,000 beautiful bouncing, babies at the Canadian National Exhibition. She’s pretty little Heather Elizabeth Murray.

TRUMAN HONORS DISABLED:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Truman addresses committee for the aid of handicapped, urges greater job opportunities, and honors a leader in the program.

AIR SHOW PRELUDE TO DISASTER:
ENGLAND – Disaster is in the offing at the Farnborough Air Show. Crowds watch a daredevil exhibition by new super-sonic jet, unaware that the pilot will die the next day, in a tragic crash into the spectators section.

AQUA WRESTLING:
SEATTLE – Gorgeous George battles the Masked Marvel in a watery bout that has the grapplers and the referee in and out of the drink. Fortunately, there’s a life guard on hand.

MARINES STAGE SAVAGE DRIVE ON KOREA FRONT:
KOREA – Marines slash in the see-saw battle of Bunker Hill, burning out the foxholes of a few last-ditch opponents with grenades and flame-throwers. Savage, spectacular action marks this close-in assault.

IKE AND ADLAI STUMP NATION:
SEATTLE – Democratic Presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson stumps the West Coast, appearing at Seattle’s Far East Trade Fair, as his campaign continues in high gear.

Republican standard-bearer Dwight D. Eisenhower speaks in Indianapolis, then makes a flying visit to Washington, D.C. In the nation’s capitol he sees political advisers.

VIRGIN ISLANDS – Carnival: The first of its kind in 35 years, and Caribbean merry-makers make the most of it.

NEW YORK – Top dancing amateurs vie at the famed Harvest Moon Ball. Grand prize goes to an ex-policeman, retired for disability.

DENMARK – Cavorting sea lions discover their pool is a fine sliding pond when water is changed. Throngs gather to watch frisky cubs play.

AIR TRAGEDY:
ENGLAND – At the Farnborough Air Show, super-sonic tragedy strikes from the sky when a new jet rips apart in mid-air, strews wreckage over the crowd. Two crewman, 26 onlookers die, 63 are injured.

FIGHTER-BOMBERS BLAST NORTH KOREA TARGETS:
KOREA – Fighter-bombers clash at North Korea targets in a new intensified assault, telegraphing their punches with advance warning leaflets to selected targets. Despite a fore-warned foe, they arrive on schedule, bearing destruction to strategic marks.

GOP CLOSES RANKS AS ADLAI CAMPAIGNS:
CALIFORNIA – Democratic Presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson revisits the house where he was born, on a campaign swing through the Far West. He praises the region for its contribution to the nation’s progress.

NEW YORK – Senator Robert Taft meets with GOP Presidential nominee “Ike” Eisenhower, in a move to heal party splits caused by convention efforts. “Mr. Republican” says he’s firmly behind the party nominee.

NEWS IN BRIEF:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the White House lawn, President Truman plays host to representatives of Women in the armed services, in ceremonies marking the appearance of a new stamp honoring our women warriors.

FRANCE – The Schumann plan goes into effect, as the Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community meets for the first time. At this historic occasion, work begins on a draft plan for a European Federation.

TURKEY – NATO Chief General Matthew Ridgway visits our Middle Eastern ally. He inspects troops and armored units, discusses defense progress with military leaders.

AIR FORCE ELEVEN BEATS MARINE TEAM:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Quantico Marines and Air Force “Generals” meet on the gridiron in traditional clash. Former Michigan State Star Al Darrow leads the “Generals” in an upset victory over favored Marines. Score, 14-6.

MISS AMERICA COMES HOME:
COLUMBUS, GEORGIA – Miss America returns in triumph, bearing the crown of beauty. Lovely Neva Jane Langley is acclaimed by her hometown, in the biggest, happiest welcome ever.

ALLIED FLEETS MANEUVER ON RED SEA FRONTIER:
“Operation Mainbrace” assembles the greatest NATO armada yet to hold maneuvers. The allied show of sea-might maneuvers in the North Sea and Baltic waters – within range of Russia. Fleets of eight nations take part.

STRATOFORTRESS, NEWEST GLOBAL BOMBER, DISPLAYED:
SEATTLE – First films of the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, America’s newest global bomber. Eight jet engines power the mammoth swept-wing plane, at 600 mph plus speeds. A potent new weapon in freedom’s arsenal.

PRESIDENT IS HOST:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Truman is host to wives of theatre owners, while husbands attend convention.

WHEELBARROW RACE:
CALIFORNIA – “Wheelbarrow Johnnie” lives again, as Placerville stages a wheelbarrow race, honoring the man who sold the gold-miners their wheelbarrows.

“JET JEEP” TAKES OFF:
CALIFORNIA – The Jet Jeep, a one-man helicopter as little as the Stratofortress is big, is inspected by Army Secretary Pace. Weighing 300 pounds, the tiny copter carries twice its weight, is on order for the Army. It’s the infantryman’s prayer.

OLYMPIC ATHLETES WELCOMED:
SAN FRANCISCO – The Bay City plays host to California’s Olympic Contingent with an enthusiastic civic reception for 50 athletic stars.

“OPERATION SCORCHER”:
ARIZONA – Desert tests subject men and new uniforms, and equipment, to extreme experimental conditions, to see how they stand the heat.

BRADLEY FIELD DEDICATED:
HARTFORD – Governor Lodge, Senator Benton, and other state dignitaries are on hand at Bradley Field’s new terminal building, inaugurating a new era in the field’s history.

IKE STUMPS MIDWEST ADLAI’S SON A MARINE:
Campaigning in the Mid-West, GOP Presidential candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower expresses his faith in running mate Senator Richard Nixon, as controversy mounts over the Californian’s donated expense fund. At Quantico, Virginia, Democratic nominee Governor Adlai Stevenson takes time out from campaigning to see his elder son commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marines. Then, in New York, Stevenson is acclaimed by the AFL convention.

NAVY LAUNCHES ROBOT WAR:
KOREA – The push-button war of tomorrow becomes today’s reality, as the Navy launches pilotless bombers against heavily defended Red targets. Obsolete fighters, carrying bombs and a television eye, are guided by remote control from an accompanying mother plane, the first combat use of guided missiles.

TYPHOON RIPS WAKE ISLAND:
Wake Island, Pacific stepping stone for the Korea air-lift, is smashed by a typhoon. Winds over 150 mph velocity level buildings, destroy radio and radar installations. But personnel take shelter in Japanese-built bunkers, and no lives are lost.

POLAR AIR BASE REVEALED:
GREENLAND – At Thule, a mighty Air Force base is ready for operations, guarding the polar route for trans-continental air war. Giant runways can handle our mightiest bombers, despite Arctic winds, sub-zero climate.

CHADWICK CONQUERS CATALINA CHANNEL:
CALIFORNIA – Florence Chadwick attempts the treacherous Catalina Channel for the second time, and completes the aquatic ordeal in record time, a gallant comeback after her earlier heartbreaking defeat.

UCLA DOWNS OREGON, 13-6
CALIFORNIA – UCLA comes from behind in a gridiron thriller to defeat Oregon. Starring is tailback Teddy Narleski. There’s no stopping him as he rams across both touchdowns for the Bruins.

IKE OKAYS NIXON ADLAI IN BALTIMORE:
WEST VIRGINIA – General Eisenhower meets his running mate for the first time since controversy arose over Senator Nixon’s private expense fund. Ike offers congratulations for Nixon’s sincere speech in self-defense.

BALTIMORE – Democratic Presidential Candidate Adlai Stevenson addresses Maryland voters, says he’ll strive to lower taxes, but won’t make promises he can’t live up to.

FAROUK’S PALACE:
EGYPT – Authorities permit films of Farouk’s palace, showing the riches left behind by the exiled monarch. Uncounted treasures in precious gems, rar stamps and coins. In his wardrobe, 100 suits, 1,000 neckties. Fully equipped gambling room features roulette, cards and dice.

MONKEY AND MICE IN PIONEER SPACE FLIGHT:
NEW MEXICO – Air Force scientists launch Albert the Monkey and two white mice into upper space on a 2,000 mph rocket flight, a historic first. Films show the mice under zero gravity, in this test of reaction to space flight.

MARCIANO CONGRATULATES WALCOTT:
PHILADELPHIA – After a thrilling thirteen-round battle, boxing’s new champion congratulates the ex-champ.

SPILLS ON A HILL:
WASHINGTON – Men and machines tackle a hill with a 60-degree grade in motorcyclists’ northwestern hill-climbing championship, and the winner is the hill. Not one makes the grade. Spills and thrills a-plenty.

WILD WEST COMES EAST:
NEW YORK – The Wild West comes east, as the twenty-seventh edition of the Rodeo comes to town. Bronco busting and bucking Braham steers thrill big city audience.

PENNSYLVANIA WEEK:
PENNSYLVANIA – Governor Fine proclaims Pennsylvania Week, celebrated from October thirteenth through nineteenth, dedicated to the Keystone State’s contribution to the Free World’s defense.
